What are your acceptable terms for a catchweight

My two cents on that fight,

It should have been on the limit because it was for the title.

What makes it acceptable in my eyes though is Margahoes past, and how he deserved to be punished for the lives he had put at risk. Draining him, and his eye problem was his comeuppance.

But that said, no belt should have been on the line.

 

Yes and in that first middleweight fight PWill weighed 157. The catchweight he was asked to come in under for the rematch was 158. Which he didn't even go up to. He chose to come in two pounds under that.

So...yeah. Not much of a problem in actual practice, outside of just general principle.

For all intents and purposes there may as well have not even been a nominal catchweight. There essentially wasn't one, unless we're to believe that without one being asked for Williams would have weighed in somewhere between 158-160. I'm pretty sure he'd have weighed about 156 no matter what.

I'm pretty sure that Williams was only moving to 160 for the shot at Pavlik.

If Serge hadn't stepped in at such short notice, they'd have probably made it at 154.

Martinez probably discovered he was better at 160 almost by accident.
