These are not talked about much on ESB with so much focus being placed on elite competition, but these types of fights are sometimes great to watch. I'm talking about elite boxers looking great against lesser level but still game competition on free HBO television. Here are some of my favorites: Mayweather vs: N'dou- brilliant offensive display Mitchell- great display of offense and defense and how to put it all together Jones vs: Hall- amazing performance, brilliant quickness, on another level that night Cotto vs: Quintana- thought Quintana would pose questions with his southpaw style and slickness... thought wrong
I'll do a couple... Miguel Cotto Vs.: Alfonzo Gomez (A showcase of Cotto's Breakdown of a fighter in it's 100% uncut form) Daniel Ponce De Leon Vs.: Ray Bautista (A showcase of a a fighter with not so many skills but what a "PUNCH") Kelly Pavlik Vs.: Jose Luis Zertuche (The 1st K.O. that put Pavlik on the map)
Bernard Hopkins vs Antwon Echols 2 - possibly the dirtiest and roughest boxing match off all time - with Hopkins actually knocking Echols unconscious for a moment from a rabbit punch - and then the fight resumed! Trinidad vs Yory Boy Campas. This fight was an all out brawl from round 1 to the end with Trinidad almost knocking Campas' head clean off his shoulders. Kelly Pavlik vs Edison Miranda. Could have been fight of the year in 2007. This was the fight that made the boxing world realize that Pavlik may very well be the next Great Middleweight.
Floyd Mayweather vs. Carlos Gerena Marco Antonio Barrera vs. Enrique Sanchez Roy Jones vs. Bryant Brannon
Juan Manuel Marquez vs Rocky Juarez (he out boxed the crap outta Juarez in that fight) Tommy Morrison vs Razor Ruddick (I thought Ruddick was gonna ko Morrison for sure...I was wrong. I had a new respect for Morrison's punch and chin after that fight) De La Hoya vs Quartey (good, close fight)
Mijares over Arce, Navarro, Munoz (probably a bit better than 'mid level', but still...) Kessler over Andrade, Mundine
