What are your favorite Tim Witherspoon fights?

    Ya, I agree, but he's known as being a boxer by many, which he certainly was. I think of him primarily as a puncher too, though.

    I would have to say the Tim Witherspoon vs Frank Bruno title bout on July 19 1986 was my favorite fight. It was televised on ABC's Wide World Of Sports. Bruno fought Tim very gamely, but he fell prey to Witherspoon's overhand right hands. Frank was very exhausted when the end came in round 11.

    That fight amazes me. It proves just how great Spoon was. He was terribly out of shape, and taking a whipping from the younger, stronger Bruno, and Spoon was still the better man.

    The age difference wasn’t all that vast. Mercer was like 36 while spoon was maybe 39. But yes it was an entertaining match and one that Tim might even have been slightly robbed in

    Spoon vs Holmes for me with the Ecklund fight getting the silver medal. I reckon that is the best overhand right I have seen landed.

    Well, I didn't know their ages off the top of my head, but Tim had bad fighting much longer, so in that way he was much older than Mercer. Mercer had been fighting for 7 years, to Spoon's 17. Heck that fight was so close I don't know if it was right to go to Mercer, or if Spoon should've gotten it, or if should have been a draw. One of the greatest heavyweight fights ever.

    It was a very good fight and yes Tim was in the later stages of his long career.

    Holmes, Bruno, Mercer.

    A lot of Witherspoons fights that went to the later rounds were a bit boring, but not those three.

    I would have to say Spoon's fight with Carl Williams was probably one of the better fights of his career. The fight with Thomas was very good. Actually Tim's losing fights were probably the most exciting huh? I mean, Holmes, Mercer, Thomas. Clearly the best to me.

    Well yeah. They were both so fat they couldn't really move a lot so they stood still and punched each other. I must confess, I thought it was a terrific fight.

    You mean the second fight? I was thinking back to '84. Ya the rematch was a good fight. The first was hard-fought too, but not great to be sure.

    Yes the second one. The one in a bathtub. The first fight between Dillian Whyte and Derrick Chisora was very similar.
