I’ve stated in another thread why I no longer watch boxing- the politics and bs just began to outweigh the good. However, when boxing is “on” no other sport comes close. I can’t imagine fans of other sports watching games or plays from years ago over and over. If you’ve taken the time to register on a boxing site you know what I mean. When I was a serious fan I thought nothing of staying home alone on a Saturday night and dropping $90 for an anticipated fight. Whether it was shobox, Friday night fights, reruns of Tuesday night fight, hbo whatever, I watched. Boxing is called the, “theater of the unexpected” and with good reason. Below are some of my “oh s***” memories. I’m only including fights that I saw live (on tv). In no particular order:
    1) Jones Tarver 2 Superman is exposed to be Clark Kent. With one single punch, thrown by a man with his eyes closed-who Jones had already beaten- Jones would have his future crushed and his past called into question.
    2) Jones vs Glencoffee Johnson. - Clark Kent was exposed to be Lois Lane. Johnson was a rugged, likable, tough contender known for not getting decisions in his opponents back yard. He was the type of guy the Jones has routinely feasted on in his prime. Come the fight, Johnson battered Jones from pillar to post until landing a hard right on the side of Jones head. The way Roy’s head bounced on the canvas was chilling.
    3) Lewis vs Holyfield 1 - a draw?!?! Wtf?!?!
    4) W klitschko vs Sanders- the heir apparent has been usurped by semi ritired, semi pro golfer. Sanders didn’t have much of a physique but he had incredibly fast hands and could crack. He looked like the type of guy that, after a couple of drinks at the bar, you think, I can kick his ass. Lol
    5) Morales vs Pacquiao 1, round 12 - morales fights as a southpaw. “Did you lik it.” No homo here, but I loved Morales!
    6) Morales vs Pacquiao 3 - Erik very subtly but unmistakablely shakes his head. It was the right thing to do but I was still heartbroken.
    7) Bite fight- no need to elaborate, enough has been said
    8) Corrales Castillo - I remember thinking by round 5 or so, this is turning into a helluva good scrap- if they keep this up it might be a fight of the year candidate. I had no idea I was watching what would become part of boxing lore.
    9) Corrales Castillo round 10- Castillo goes limp. I understand the controversy that Corrales should’ve been dq’ed but he wasn’t. But there was no denying that Weeks made the right call to save Castillo when he did.
    10) Barrera putting Naz in a half Nelson and driving him into to the turnbuckle- that was badassery. “This is for making me wait, puto”
    11) Gatti vs Ward 1 - two not quite A list fighters fighting like their lives were on the line. Breathtaking
    12) Gatti vs Ward 1 round 9 - Gatti goes down from a sick liver shot. Manny steward says that’s it, it’s over, he can’t get back up from that...

What are some of yalls most memorable moments?

Watching ODLH KO Mayorga live in the arena! It was a great fight but it was the atmosphere that was amazing in that fight, the arena was about to explode when ODLH won.

Watching Gatti vs Ward live on tv was pretty awesome as well.

I think Jones was badly faded afteR moving down from fighting Ruiz but his chin was exposed it didn`t shock me that much McCallum gave Jones problems by jabbing him into the ropes and Griffin did the same thing in his first match with Roy and once on the ropes Jones was no Mayweather plus he couldn`t escape the way Canelo did vs GGG, the second fight was Jones overpowering a fighter that really wasn`t that good. I also thought Barrera did the buckle smash not for Naz making him wait but because Naz was the favourite and had overshadowed an improved Barrera after he lost to Junior Jones, also in the press conference after the Jones bout Naz sat down next to Barrera and said you need to work on your right hand and a sportswriter said Marco after that sat there and looked like the loneliest person in the world! A bit how Trump looked when Obama roasted him at some conference and Trump looked at him as if to say that`s it I`m coming for you guys! Thanks Obama! lol!

I think it would have been a bigger moment had he of knocked Evander out, that fight was a really memorable fight nobody thought George at the age could put a fight like that up and what a fight! I think the viewing figures were bigger than the Moorer fight also.

Jones chin was just fine before the move back down, add a little bit of age and dimmed reflex's and people call him chinny. Prime Jones had no chin issues. Barrera didn't like the ****y Naz and it showed with the turnbuckle incident. Imo prime Naz before his head exploded with over confidence had the style to leave MAB flat on his face for the count

Good thread. My three favourite boxing moments of all time (in chronological order - they were all about equal in terms of the enjoyment at the time):

    1. Jeff Fenech KO10 Victor Callejas - Fenech wins third world title & goes undefeated doing so. Both he & Callejas were world champs at junior feather & were moving up in weight & fighting for a vacant featherweight crown. I regard this as Fenech's best ever performance despite the fact he fought with a broken hand.

    2. Kostya Tszyu KO2 Zzzzzzzzab Judah - Unifies the 140lb championship & invents new dance move with one punch (the Zab Judah shuffle).

    3. Vic Darchinyan KO 9 Cristian Mijares - Unifies the 115lb championship despite going in as a big underdog. Extra sweet for me because I knew he'd win & backed him big.

Fenech, Tszyu & Darchinyan were all A-level guys in my book. That they reached the top fighting out of a country half a world away from the biggest boxing market in the world (the US) and half a world away from the second biggest boxing market in the world (Europe) is a remarkable achievement. In fact, it's a lot better than that.

Their careers also followed on from one another hence my longevity as a boxing fan.

I did lose interest as Darchinyan's career wound down (because I always had an A-level guy to follow) but that Kiwi heavy winning a slice of the heavyweight pie brought me back from the wilderness. Then Horn (who I'd barely heard of) beat Manny.

    It's good to be back.
