He did not and the reason he ran disgracefully is because he was petrified of Tito power in particular the left hook. It was embarrassing Tito was practically running after him in the ring in the championship rounds. Clinic my backside.
The only thing you've been half-right about. It should have read " This content is protected " though.
I don't agree with a lot of things you say, but I agree 100% with this statement here. DLH was absolutely petrified of Trinidad's power, he felt a couple chunky left hooks early on and didn't want anything to do with it in the late rounds where Trinidad was at his strongest. In no way was that fight a boxing clinic, I scored it a draw but could easily see why the judges gave it to Trinidad. DLH even acknowledges in his latest interview in his Thriller fight coming up that he ran from Trinidad, feared his power and is interested in a rematch with him because he knows Trinidad comes to fight.
Very few could beat him. If a fighters plan to outbox him failed, they would get tore apart in highlight reel devastating fashion. It was fun to watch when a boxer realizes they were in over their head. Tito don't just out point you, he beats the crap out of you.
Lethal puncher with both hands, endless gas tank despite being a slow starter he got stronger as the fight went on and was always dangerous. He gets underrated a lot due to his performances when he was a part time boxer and past his best. It's true that he was somewhat one dimensional, but was still a total juggernaut and an atg.
Joppy didn't know what hit him in the first round, he got up stumbled to his corner and his trainer told him " YOU GOT TO KEEP YOUR HANDS UP" !!!
Watch it again. I've watched it like 5 times. The best I could do for Tito is four rounds. You can argue that De La Hoya won 10, and 11. Those were very close rounds with De La Hoya landing the better combos. Over all De La Hoya out-landed Trinidad, and had a higher connect percentage. Oscar out-landed Tito. Round 2 DLH landed six more punches Round 3 DLH landed 10 more punches Round 4 DLH landed eight more punches Round 5 DLH landed 10 more punches Round 6 DLH landed 10 more punches Round 7 DLH landed 22 more punches Round 8 DLH landed 15 more punches Round 9 DLH landed 11 more punches Round 10 DLH landed 2 more punches While you shouldn't score a fight based on punches landed, that's a very good indicative of how the fight played out.
I thought the fight was a draw as well. Every time Delahoya threw a flurry everybody went nuts whether the punches landed or not. I had it even after 4 rounds then Delahoya won the next 3 out of 4 rounds, then Trinidad won the next 3 out of 4 rounds, but i can see why some thought Delahoya won as well. It was no robbery, i was supprised Trinidad got the decision against the cash cow though.
When your drunk all you can here or see is the ews and aws of the flurries, along with the comentators glorifying the cash cow. Trinidad was putting menacing methodical pressure and landing less but consistant shots that were hard, keeping the rounds close and competitive. Delahoya thought he was further ahead than he actually was. That was his mistake. Delahoya knew he was getting tired and Tito was getting stronger, so to trade that late in the fight was risky.
No i don't think so, wasn't his accuser the same guy that accused Margarito? His father taped his hands his whole career the same and the only guy to start trouble was Richardson. It was just head games.
My favorite fighter of the modern era, he had good reach, long left jab, a punishing right hand. His height helped quite a bit, he used to get decked early, but when he got up, Watch Out. Felix Tito Trinidad was from Cupey Alto, Puerto Rico. I really enjoyed his title bouts that were shown on Showtime. One of the best 147 lb and 154 lb fighters. Would have liked to have seen Tito against Floyd Mayweather Jr or Manny Paquaio at their peaks. A battle of counterpunchers.
