This. Doesn't mean Holmes has a better resume, but H2H I agree.

    For me:

Monzon is overrated -- not as impressed by his level of challengers as some are.

If James Scott (pre-Jerry Martin) had been allowed to fight Matthew Saad Muhammad for the title in Atlantic City (on furlough), he would hae either won ... or escaped.

Hector Camacho's resume is as impressive as nearly anyone's in history -- we see lists of 'great' fighters that a lot of pre-WWII guys beat and seem to assume they were all in their primes and that the victor was impressive, but we know what a lot of Camacho's peck-run-and-hold wins look like and discount their significance. But if we knew all there was to know about who Greb beat at the time he beat them, we might look at him a little differently, just to pick an example.

Not overrated in an ATG sense but in a H2H sense.

Based on the fact that he rose to the top of what was on paper a much deeper welterweight division.

Up to the 1930s the debate about who the greatest welterweigth of all time was, turned on three fighters fighting in that era.

Do you see where I am coming from?

Certainly but which great Welters did Walcott BEAT that would give you the opinion he could beat the greatest Welters that came after...particularly given the lack of footage and the fact boxing most certainly evolved from that time.

No career fighter escapes boxing without having life long problems induced by head trauma.

Walcott fought in a sick welterweight era.

He won a series against Mysterious Billy Smith, who many regarded as the GOAT at that weight into the 1930s.

You also have outstanding fighters like Tommy West, Young Corbett, Young Peter Jackson, Rube Ferns, Dixie Kid.

Only the strongest assumption about the evolution of the sport could make up the deficit for the curent welterweight division.

It was posted, but I think I missed it while searching, so apologies in advance for not quoting the original poster. I think an in-shape Tim Witherspoon gives Tyson a lot of problems at a time not a lot of fighters did. I think he had a very good chin (the 2nd Bonecrusher fight to me was an anamoly and based on factors beyond chin), was a good boxer, and seemed to like to mix it up too. I think he'd come to fight and make it competitive.

    1. I almost feel like Carlos Monzon, boring style and all, is the most invinsible fighter that ever lived including Robinson. I don't favor any fighter at middleweight against him. Langford, Greb, Robinson. Although I rank them higher than him at that weight.

    2. I think that Sugar Ray Leonard is the only fighter without any flaws or weaknesses. He is simply a perfect fighter. speed, power, defense, toughness etc. He was that good.

    3. I feel that Langford was as good as we think he was and. Gans must have hit very, very hard, because he skills look great, but nothing outragous. He looked of balance in some of the fights I saw when he was punching.

    4. I think super heavyweights are at a disadvantage because of the lack of speed and agility. This is not wrestling. If you cannot land punches or escape them your goose is cooked.

    5. I think Duran is not a top 10 pound for pound fighter all-time. Fights I have ahead of him are (in my p4p order)

    6. I think that Willie Peps 229 to only 11 loses aren't understood properly. The man was a boxing god.

    7. Pernell Whitaker defense would be exposed by Roberto Duran. He would have to actually run away or stand and fight. Duran would make Whitaker miss more and make him pay.

    8. Sugar Robinson has the 3 best resume next to Charles and Greb

    9. Ezzard Charles resume is almost unbelievable...I am not sure if we can understand how great a prime Charles was.

    10. Jack Johnson would flurish under modern rules.

    11. Jess Willard was competitive in the final round of the Dempsey bout.

    12. Ruben Olivares was beating the crap out of Arguello and that Alexis' power saved him from getting KO'ed. Rubin was inside pounding away. Still not sure where Alexis' punch came from. I think it was lucky.

    13. Floyd Mayweather hasn't fought dangerous fighter since Corrales. Corrales was not hurt and should have been allowed to continue. Mayweather lost the first fight with Castillio and maybe drew the second.

    14. Sandy Saddler was scary. He was Ray Robinson at feather. He would have beaten a prime everyone at feather, probably 130 and maybe most at 135.

    15. Joe Louis has a better chin than given credit for. He was dropped by flash KD and only stopped once in his prime after taking the fighter very lightly. He also left himself open because he was always in punch mode and caught hard shots that otherwise defensive minded fighter would have weaved.

    16. Duran - Leonard I was very close. I have scored that one for Leonard more than a few times. Duran - Leonard II was close even though Leonard had the momentum. If it had gone on it would have turned into Montreal.

    17. Hearns had the fastest hands in Boxing bar none. That punch he landed on Duran was so fast it sounded like a gun shot. Can you imagine being in the crowd and hearing that shot.

    18. If Hearns did not have a china chin he would have been the greatest fighter of all-time. He beats Hagler over the distance. KO's Leonard. Would have KO'ed Duran too at welter...if his chin was glass.

    19. Leonard's comeback win over Hearns I is the greatest comeback in boxing history. There is no way Leonard should have been able to KO this man who had him on the run. Hearns was beating LEONARD up and laughing about it.

I could go on...this is fun.

Size has little do with speed.
Usain Bolt is 210 lbs, the second fastest man at the olympics around 165.

Only advantage smaller men have is a better stamina.

Heavier american football players or even olympic weightlifters are just as if not more explosive than Usain Bolt at a 20 meter dash.
At a 20m or 40m dash olympic weightlifters or explosive american football players thrive not light sprinters.

This "fat" man can dunk a basketball in standing position and he's just 5'9 and 360 pounds.

If you say superheavies are at an disadvantage mention stamina as speed is a trait that's not bound to weight and not even stamina is not very bound to weight.

True, but more than likely a lighter slimmer man is likely to be faster and more agile. Running and weight lifting aren't comparable because the opponent is using his tools to hit and hurt you.

If it wasn't for soccer, the US would have had a hell of a lot less champions.
