For me: Wins: 5. Jose Luis Garcia (Norton as his wicked, body-punching best) 4. Randall Cobb 3. Jerry Quarry 2. Jimmy Young 1. Muhammad Ali (what did you expect?) Performances: I just had to add 2 more for the performances: 7. Jose Luis Garcia II 6. Muhammad Ali II 5. Larry Holmes 4. Jimmy Young 3. Muhammad Ali III 2. Jerry Quarry 1. Muhammad Ali I
1. Ali (first fight, though Norton got screwed in the 3rd fight)) 2. Jimmy Young (elimination fight, where the winner actually ended up with WBC belt) 3. Duane Bobick (Prime time fight, Bobick goes in undefeated, highly ranked, Norton looked like a monster) 4. Jerry Quarry (would rate #2 but Quarry was a shell of himself, plus took the fight on 2 weeks notice) 5. Henry Clark (was Norton's biggest win going into first Ali fight) Kinda of surprising the lack of "big" wins by Norton. He didn't exactly "clean out the division". Worst losses: 1. Earnie Shavers (could have died) 2. George Foreman (could have died) 3. Gerry Cooney (could have died) 4. Jose Luis Garcia (1st fight) 5. Scott LeDoux (Ruled a draw, but Norton was actually TKO'ed in the last round)
Norton kind of reminds me of Shavers. Like Shavers, he had 3, 4, or 5 excellent wins in his career and just was very active and had lots of good supporting wins. His big wins of course being against Ali, Quarry, Young, and maybe Cobb. But O' Halloran, Clark, Kirkman, Garcia, Lovell, Stander, Middleton, Bobick, Zanon, and Stephens were all ranked fighters when Norton beat them, and they were all decent fighters and he beat most all of them very impressively. Overall, I would say Norton has a pretty solid resume, though not the best.
