That’s good footage, I’ve never been overly a fan of Gonzalez in that I’ve watched him enough but I’m trying to recover my daily fight hobby I get burnt out and bored it’s been a long time since I watched a bout to “enjoy” it, it was revived when I found my pic of Sung Kil Moon in the home gym and a wave of nostalgia hit me - I used to eat beef jerky or chorizo and just watch the hot dog and monster truck fighters for a whole afternoon…

Did Old George have great defense? I remember washed Qawi lightning him tf up and tagging him over and over again, but not having the power to do much. If Old George was great defensively I don't think we'd talk about his chin as much as we do.
Same with Holyfield. I hear people hold his defence in high esteem but got beaten the **** out of in pretty much every big fight he ever had to my memory.

That’s fair… but what’s the sample size for defences at HW? I shouldn’t have said “great” good is better - Louis was great… then there’s?

Funnily enough I just talked about this is another thread in regards to Floyd Patterson heh.

I'd say at their best, Jack Johnson, Archie Moore, Jimmy Young, Ali, Holmes, Tyson, Wlad and Usyk have "great" defence. Maybe Chris Byrd as well cuz his offence wasn't much to speak of and yet he still overachieved somehow lol.

Larry Holmes. He could go all 15 rounds, taking breathers around rounds 7-8.

It's Joe Louis by a mile.

    B-Hop

    Foreman

Dudes with the energy to just output the whole entire time are not conserving.

In his prime (late 20s) Archie Moore was a 160lber… Jimmy Young was good at getting away from punches but not usually in a useful way, Ali got hit a lot… Holmes id say his was “great” for a HW Holyfield couldn’t do anything to him, Tyson in the 80s yes, Wlad was good at not getting hit and so is Usyk… Byrd had a very good defence, probably the most “fundamental” of all of the above (not including Moore) though he was a southpaw.

I sure do miss having great announcers at ringside, heck, I'd settle for decent announcers.

There are no good announcing teams left anymore. They start at bad and keep dropping. My favorite was Ryan and Clancy
