Usyk was rated as one of the top p4p fighters a few years before beating AJ, once he became undisputed cruiser king he shot up the ring p4p rankings.
Doesn't matter, he is not the first or the last to face taller or stronger or both (he is however taller than Chisora). He has speed over power when it comes to them, aside from skills and IQ. One not choosing the division he has all the size for, but goes for the lower one lacks balls more or less.
Loma's got better footwork. He is able to get in and out faster than Usyk. For everything else, Usyk is comparable or better. I don't know why people question Usyk's ring IQ when Loma gave so many early rounds away against Lopez. Usyk rarely gives anything away when he doesn't have to. Loma obviously looks flashier, but that's due to the weight. Bigger fighters tend to be slower and less flashy than smaller fighters.
I like this. Pre Haney fight I felt Loma and a double jab was the way to get to Haney and into range. The few times he did gave him his best success. THE few times, and I was surprised this wasnt more obvious and part of the plan from the start. Loma left alot on the table, where Usyk seems much better at adapting as he needs to.
Higher ring IQ ? He lost both Haney, Lopez, fights for taking rounds off at crucial moments that doesn't sound like a higher ring IQ to me.
Loma is more skilled in my opinion. Where they differ is that Usyk tries to be the first to get his punches in whereas Loma is more safety first and tries not to fight in the trenches unless he's trying to even the score after an exchange. This tends to leave Loma behind on the scorecards more often, even if Loma should be landing enough combinations to put himself back into the lead. Usyk just tends not to let his oponent pull ahead at any point in the round.
Usyk is the only fighter currently who looks (for lack of a better term) constantly "out of place" at his weight. He's a HW southpaw that is slick, fast, skilled and has little to no wasted movement, with an iron chin, iron lungs and indomitable will. He fights like a lower weight fighter. You almost never see HWs who look like he does. I will say, you can make the argument for Inoue too. You don't often see lights out boxer-punchers at Bantamweight. His style seems out of place for the weight class at times. He looks more like a LHW in the ring in style.
Lomachenko at 126-130 had the best footwork in boxing , he was brilliant and in that skill set alone he's great.. Overall it's close but I'd rate Loma a slight edge when he was a featherweight. Usyk never looked as good as he did at that weight,,,IMO.
Pretty sure both of them are better than any other olympic gold medalist that won in their weight class, the olympics are only tyhree round fights, both these fighters have evolved since they were amateurs, Usyk is one of the greatest amateurs of all-time, most amateurs are really green.
