I was thinking of getting a pair of Boxing boots for my Birthday in a few months and I was wondering what is the benefit that they give over a pair of trainers. Are they only neccessary for fighting?

They are specifically designed for better grip in the ring. They are lightweight, and the main thing is they provide good ankle support for turning into punches so that you get maximum power on your shots.

    Thanks.

What price range would be good to start at, I was thinking of around £70. I'll have enough money but would it be worth it?

it's worth it if you box, but why would you get a pair if you dont box?

70 Euro is fine for an entry level/decent pair of shoes. If possible try on a number of brands for fit.

I wear Cleto Reyes myself and they cost about $150 USD. I also have a cheaper pair of everlast shoes that are quite good too. Adidas, reebok, nike all make decent boxing shoes.

Winning makes nice gear from what I have tested. I havent owned their shoes but have tried a pair on very comfortable. I'd def try a pair b4 buying others. The new gloves I am getting are winning.

** Edit dont buy MMA low rise shoes they dont have the ankle support, they are for mixed use (like wrestling)

They keep you from slipping on those damn logos in the middle of the ring.

    - most of the time.

There are some guys who use them for training in a regular weight room gym. Not many, but there are. I'm guessing it's because the flat sole on the bottom allows you to press off the floor better than a conventional shoe for exercises such as squats, deadlifts, etc... and they're also very lightweight and comfortable. Not a bad choice as an overall training shoe actually.

    I've seen that too.

Are they essentially the same as wrestling shoes, only maybe taller and with ankle support?

I'm thinking of buying another pair for every day wearing just because I love how light and comfortable mine are.

Ringside is where I got mine, I'm the same shoe size as you and I got 14s of Everlast's high top boxing shoes. Ringside and Title usually have some on sale, unfortunately most boxing shoes 1. cut off at size 13 and 2. run narrow so 14 is probably a safer bet for you. Ringside's stock of everlasts goes up to 16 I believe.
