One of the Contender guys has a contractor business when he retired. Not big bucks but good money if you're hooked up with insurance companies and the city and county. Michael Spinks is another one who stayed wealthy, I'd imagine.
ray boom boom mancini is doing very well financially. I heard ike quartey made a lot more outside the ring than in boxing. Apparently he's in the tile business and is hooked up w/hotels and resorts. I think hagler is doing well. And I imagine mickey ward made a nice chunk of change from the movie as well as his other businesses.
first i thought this was a pointless thread, but if you think about it there's more famous boxer who end up broke after they retire and i'm actually finding it tough to think of boxers who retire wealthy, many may retire well off tho oh ****....ricky hatton
Quartey and Lennox are the first too I thought of. I think I heard Sergio Mora has managed to hold on to his cash better than Manfredo.
Holmes invested in a depressed Houston real estate market during the 80s. When the market turned around, he made a killing. His non-boxing earnings are reported to be several times what he made in the ring. I always point to him as an example of a guy who did things right. De La Hoya is another great example. The guy owns an entire skyscraper and parking garage in downtown LA outright. Totally liquid. I heard him say he would like to make a bid on the Dodgers. Fantastic businessman.
naseem hamed was able to keep hold of his riches. steve collins kept most of his money. also made quite a bit in retirement. kevin "THE LOOK" lueshing has a tidy sum through investments.
I still think Foreman makes more on those grills than almost any current boxer makes inside or outside the ring.
Leonard may be well off, but his ex-wife cost him. :huh He was broke shortly after retiring. Lately he sold his name to some marketing company and made a fortune doing so. That move save him. With a cocaine addiction and divorceproceedings he might not have cash for more than a few years. Really? If true that's a feel good story, because if there ever was a fighter you'd imagine retiring penniless this guy fits the bill. Sure? I believe I read that he has wasted a fortune on cocaine (and a divorce?) Lol. He's legally bankcrupt.
