Before the Thaxton vs. Romanov fight, there was talks about Khan fighting the winner. What happened to that fight?

Romanov is rated #8 by The Ring, and is the European Lightweight Champion. I think it's a solid opponent for Khan and good step up before he fights for a world title.

How do you feel about this fight, and who wins?

Have you seen Amir Khan fight?

Romanov can punch, that pretty much rules him out as an opponent !!

IMO romanov well deserves a shot at a lightweight abc without having to go through khan.

he fights in the other mans backyard all the time, is a very well rounded fighter in the kosta tszyu mould and style and has paid his dues.

give him a title shot someone.

For Khan's US debut someone like Kid Diamond would be the ideal opponent. In the UK/Europe, Khan-Romanov is the fight they should make. Romanov is strong, aggressive and a very good 'test' for Amir. Also it's a very good fight on paper.

lol... well if Warren is thinking about putting Amir against Nate Campbell or Pacquiao (as its been rumored) by the end of the year. I don't see why Romanov should scare them... Khan has to step up eventually, this is a good start.

because romanov would have a good chance of beating cambell or paq at lightweight and is a legit threat to every lightweight .

as a promoter you do not put your cashcow in against this type of opponent except in a world title fight.

You're right, I wasn't thinking about it that way... but it makes "business sense".

Romanov would pose a serious threat to Amir Khan.He has the tools to upset Khan's apple cart and derail his train and damage it quite seriously.

As our fellow poster sean has rightly pointed out Romanov deserves a title shot.

I ran this thread the other day on the British Forum. Most agreed it would be a good even fight, but that either they should build it up to happen further down the line, or that "Team Khan" (not necessarily Khan himself) would run a mile. As stated before, Romanov can punch.

One popular option for Khan's next opponent was a good American-based fighter, who was a natural Lightweight, and had a KO percentage of over 50.

Can't see why either camp would want this fight at this stage.

For all the talk of 'Team Khan' running a mile, there's not any sign of Romanov having any interest, and why should he, completely unnecesarily dangerous fight for him.

A good alternative for Khan if he can't(or won't) fight Romanov is Edner Cherry. He's got a solid chin, decent punch and good skills and would be an ideal opponent for Khans american debut.

It won't matter anyway as he'll probably get stopped when he fights a world class fighter with a big punch.
