Fair point, but I think the same is true for elevating a man one loses to. The unspoken inference is, "We'll, yeah, he beat me, but he's so great...if I lose to the best ever, why heck, for all you know, I might be the second-best ever."

    :rofl
Cronic case of deluded fanboyism here.
Brewster has claimed Wlad is not a great fighter. Not debatable? Not according to Brewster himself who put him away in 5 round. I thhink what he says in one sentance means more than a write up by some want to be do gooder.

So just to get this clear.

You are actually claiming that Marciano hit harder ( one punch power ) than Vladimir Klitchko?:roll:

And that's what they said about Tunney, Greb and Gibbons... until they got in the ring with them.

    And the hits keep coming...

Is there an apprenticeship program in Marciano Fables? You couldn't have gotten this good all on your own.

Gibbons lost to the few Heavyweights/Light-heavys he fought Tunney,Miske,Dempsey

Tunney only fought a few a rusty Dempsey X2 and lets not forget the long count and Tom Heeney who lost most of the Heavyweight of the time. Many also felt Gene was beat by Loughran and Loughran record at heavyweight had a lot of losses Johnny Risko was another but also had more losses than wins at Heavyweight.

Greb was a great fighter but at 5'8 and 160+ lbs what kind of heavyweight was he?

Marciano's opponents always saw an easy guy to hit, an awkward small man with a short reach and small weight until they got hit or shared a ring and then they knew they shared the ring with a little monster who kept coming

I don't know what a lot of the weights were for Gibbons's fights, but both Charley Rose and Nat Fleischer ranked him high on their list of all-time light heavyweights.

It's a little disingenuous to bring up Miske and say that Gibbons "lost to the few heavyweights/light-heavys he fought." He lost to Miske on a foul...don't know what the circumstances of the fight were or who was winning, but Gibbons aldo had a decision win over Miske, a newspaper verdict decision over him, and a newspaper verdict draw in which at least one local paper thought he got slightly the best of it.

He also gave Greb "the licking of his life" in winning an earlier newspaper decision, 7-2 with an even round. Don't know the weights in that one. But if your resume is that you lost to Dempsey and Tunney, and got the best of Miske on balance, that's not so bad.

the point is he still lost to all the Heavyweights he fought so who did Tunney beat a rusty Dempsey 2 X and was down for the long count, Tom Heeney (say no More and Lightheavyweight Gibbons (who lost to Dempsey & Miske in his Heavyweight fights) I would have loved to see how Tunney did against Archie, Walcott and Ezzard but I would not bet heavy on him based off his heavyweight record

so you are telling me that a man 5"8 160-170lbs with a 70 inch reach can beat Heavyweights, OK Willie Meehan a blown up flyweight, Tunney was a light-heavy when Harry beat him, Norfolk was a super-middleweight light heavy, Gunboat Smith was at the end of Gun Boats Career when he was KO'd in 4 in a row and Gun Boat was Ko'd 12 times
Levinsky was a light-heavyweight when Harry beat him, Bill Brennan was Ko'd by Dempsey before Harry outpointed him

Gibbons was also a light-heavy when Harry beat him

Soldier BarFeild was 5"8 and was a middleweight, he lost to Benny Leonard a few times as well as Mickey Walker and fought a draw with Harry and lost a few times but I believe he was a middleweight when he fought Greb

Harry Greb was one of my favorite fighters but at 160-170lbs and I give him lots of credit but he was not a puncher and for Tunney to claim that Harry or Gibbons would be Heavyweight champ in the 50's is a subtle way to say he would have been champ, unfortunately Tunney barley survived a rusty Dempsey and beating Tom Heeney is surely not enough heavyweight credentials to have confidence in Tunney being able to compete with Walcott,Moore,EZZ never the less Rocco but none of those guys were pale enough for Gene to share a ring with
