What boxers did Rocky Marciano consciously and deliberately duck, if any?

Well you say that, but I am sure their are theories that Valdes was avoided by Rocky's management, I say management because sure thing the Rock would have fought him given the opportunity, so who knows ?. stay safe buddy.

 

My short answer is none. Nino Valdes and Bob Baker have been mentioned as suitable opponents but those matches not materializing were due more to Archie Moore having defeated both of them on his way to a title shot. When Marciano retired, the heavyweight division had effectively been cleaned out and it was a good time for the Rock to hang 'em up.

 

Well the better question would be which boxers did Marciano fight who weren't mob controlled, old men, or just tomato cans. The answer would be none. Which is why even for a 180 pound boxer Marciano wasn't anything special.

Old men? Might be they are but Archie Moore, Walcott and Charles would've minced AJ up same as Usyk.

 

God did the ducking for him. He knew Liston would've torn that ass up and had Marciano retire at 32 just as Liston was running through the division.

Reminds me of when Andre Ward retired young and undefeated as Beterbiev was on the come up. Just like Marciano, Ward was aware that the new power punching contender was all wrong for him and left the scene

 

None. He fought all #1 contenders and one #2.

The Valdez fight should have happened, but it didn't because Nino kept losing the spot. It was in no way a duck, and also comical that some think that the Rock's management was afraid of a mediocre fighter who lost to LHWs and bums.

 

What? Liston was nothing in 1955. Also, let's say they did meet best for best Rocky would slaughter Liston for my money.

 

Lol great story. If you think 175 pound Ezzard Charles, 160 pound Archie Moore, and 190 pound Walcott could beat Anthony Joshua then you get blocked. Bye bye.

 

To be fair Liston didn't get a fight for the title until 7 years after Marciano. To put that into perspective it's the length of time spanning from Holmes title winning effort against Norton until his last lineal win prior to the Spinks loss. It's a full era.
