When we look back in time we think about boxers like

    Willie Pep
    Ray Robinson
    Muhammad Ali
    Roberto Duran
    Sugar Ray Leonard
    Marvelous Marvin Hagler

These are boxers from 1940 to 1970.

Will any boxers present time be able to take a place líke this in 40 years?

Imo, fighters that will keep a status for the next 40 years:

    Tyson
    Paq
    Lennox
    Roy jones jr
    Mayweather
    De la Hoya
    Hopkins

Whats your list and is mine ****ed?

Wladimir Klitschko. He's been on top for many years. Top heavyweights will always be remembered.

Your list is bang on all time great fighters galore - we've had some really great ones in recent times - people often forget that - I for one think Paq and Mayweather are two of the very best of all time (ever) - obviously Tyson will be revered for his aura and excitement - I think for people from my era many will also always remember Arturo Gatti with great pride also - for any brits on here Nigel Benn will be a fan favourite for all time - and I already reminisce about the Lennox Lewis days - he was a really great fighter

Sven Ottke. Never tasted defeat. Retired with a perfect record after more than 20 defences. His legacy will continue to grow over the next decades (ok, guys... just kidding!).

That will please the Marvelous one and Ray:D, Duran was hardly known outside Panama pre 1970, and Ali still had a long career ahead of him...

The reality is the sport is dying and so few of a boxings best post 1990 will ever be remembered by casual worldwide fans. The local hero will exist, but that is about as good as the sport gets now a days.

To prove my point, recently a friend with a casual interest in the sport, asked me why David Haye would not take a drugs test? Was it to avoid a fight with Lil Floyd?

I think tjhe problem is that how many of today's fighters are known universally as the above were in their day. I'm not slagging off the ability of todays fighters by the way.

Agreed! Not much love for him either, i find it strange:huh. Fought everybody, defeated all but a guy with concrete fists and the P4P King. Come through in some wars too. Gave a very good account of himself characterwise in the Pac loss and the Margo loss makes me sick

Tyson and Pacquiao will definitely be talked about for historic reasons. RJJ, Lewis, Hopkins and Mayweather will all probably be afterthoughts 40 years from now unfortunately.
