i think floyd's style of defense and potshots will not work on marg , martinez or cotto..... sergio woulld even decimate floyd.....a younger floyd would do better but this version of floyd hasn't proven that he is still the best......

the only thing that he has proven is that he is afraid of the current welters out there....except old mosely

mosley the same age as floyd, delahoya same age, paul williams at 147 numerous guys in their primes beat the **** out of floyd vernon forrest with his jab kills floyd at 147

of course he has a chance. Like if castillo had such a great defense. I doubt williams was anymore skillful than martinez, quintana, or winky yet he has wins over all of them. Floyd might counter him all night but he dont do so good with pressure fighters and williams is a damn good volume puncher. Hes also a southpaw. If castillo gave floyd all he could handle a determined williams can upset floyd.

if only williams would utilize his reach by jabbing all through out the fight and wait patiently for the right time to use combos..... he has a chance against floyd

Mixing it up is a smart way to throw Mayweather off, and if someone can consistently set traps, go to the body, go forward and backwards, and never be completely outdistanced by Mayweather's reaching jab and counter-rights, then they have a good shot of employing their own gameplan and setting the pace of the fight in their favor in order to do damage and land consistently. A prime DLH and Mosley come to mind.

The third is a patient and defensive fighter. A steady patient boxer like Winky Wright or an athletically gifted fighter like Pernell can both fit this bill with their respective styles. Limiting the openings Mayweather has will force him to create a bit of offense which allows for opportunities to counter. It is difficult to match him in a chess match, but he's not altogether unpredictable and a steady advance with a high guard, or a baiting speed-based retreat, creates opportunities for counters and safe pot-shotting. I can imagine someone like JMM having trouble countering with his athleticism, but a fight with both of them in their primes lower down would have been interesting to see.
