I think you'll find that perfecting the basic fundamentals through repetition and sparring should be the main focus. Every fighter is individually unique.. focusing on training for speed or power will make you one dimensional. Boxing is as much an art as it is a science

I dont refuse to accept any truth.

I'll tell you 1 clear truth in boxing than MANY, in fact most REFUSE to accept though...fighters now are better than they were pre 1950's...yet you will have many guys claiming Henry Armstrong would walk through the top fighters today. I doubt it.

I think punch resistance can be improved in two ways.

1)strengthening neck, trapezius, and leg muscles.

2)focusing on personal willpower and the ability to hang on through a punch.

I think a great deal of "chin" has to do with mental preparation and strength to absorb a punch.

Any fighter that won feather, lightweight, and welterweight titles(no junior titles or any of that **** either) would be a major threat and would probably bulldoze the fighters of today. Armstrong faced great competition and he still came out on top. The fact that the guy almost captured the MW title and lost because of a "draw" is proof enough of that. Period.

It can like everything else. Anyone who has boxed will tell ya they can take a much better punch 3 years after boxing than when they first walked into the gym. Sparring builds resistance...along with other forms of exercise for the chin, that said, if your chin is glass, its glass, it may improve but it'll just be a tougher brand of glass.

I agree to an extent.. I think the fighters of yesterday were hungrier then our fighters today. I can't imagine any fighter today making it through Ali vs Frazier III. I think our fighters of today are vastly talented, but are lacking in heart..

That's ridiculous. Why would ejaculating weaken the legs? Maybe if you screw standing up for hours on end.

Sory to burst your bubble, but that a load of crap. Those are just things trainers do to motivate fighters. If wearing bigger, heavier gloves made your hands faster, imagine what it could do for runners. To get stronger faster legs, wouldn't every top sprinter be wearing 20 lb clown shoes. But they don't, do they?

I disagree, I cant think of any reason why fighters of the past would have more heart than fighters of today. Most people's reason for that is because of the tougher life in the US back then, well dont you think these other guys from third world countries just has if not a tougher life growing up?

I dont see how Ali-Frazier put any more heart into their fight than Bowe-Holyfield, Marquez-Vasquez, Barrera-Morales, Gatti-Ward....all those guys would have went near death in the ring to get that victory.

A lot of handspeed and power is genetic, but I have personally done the large gloves on the bag and noticed an increase in handspeed. With my slow hands, any improvement shows. Also, I'm 6'4" 210 and have a difficult time benching much due to my long arms, but have learned a lot about leverage and seen my power increase dramatically.

Actually doing neck exercises like Floyd does improves the ability to absorb punches better making your chin a lil stronger.

yeah thats true forgot that one. but punch resistance isn't something that can be improved a great deal for the most part.
