ESB seems to have made a very complicated way of ranking fighters

Besides the skill levels, we have the shot/prime levels:

green, pre-prime, prime, post prime, past-it, pre-shot, shot

    Miguel Cotto.

In boxing you're only as good as your last fight, and Cotto just got obliterated by a former Strawweight who had been knocked out by 2 bums and got put on the canvas with a jab from Skinny Hussein, another bum. Hatton was lucky he was knocked out by a lucky punch or I'd have him at C level aswell.

Where would you rank the Klitschko brothers? They dominate the division convincingly (ranking them in the A-region by the above definitions), but many assume their competition is crappy (mostly C-region, with a few exceptions). Does this reduce their rank to B+ or what?

History and context are also important. For example, Brewer took a fight with KP on very short notice, something like a week, and got absolutely blasted quickly. He had 5 weeks to prepare for Jermain Taylor, lasted the 8 round distance, and became the first fighter to last more than 6 rounds with JT. Better circumstances, better outcome.

its tough because if you beat a decent fighter, you get a belt. then you're made better than a 'c level' fighter??

If you squeak by a bunch of C fighters, you're only a half, maybe full grade above them. (so B- to B range). If you absolutely dominate and destroy a bunch of C fighters because that's all that's available/put in front of you, people are going to give you the benefit of the doubt and call you B+/A- until proven otherwise.

Andrade is C-Level, and very much like Baldomir his skills lack, but he's big on heart and keeps coming. Both are over-achievers and were benefactors of being in the right place at the right time. John Ruiz falls in the same category.

Baldo's win over Clottey is a sketchy DQ in a fight he was losing.

To the above guy, Mickey was a solid-C fighter, and Gatti at his best was a B-Level.

Mitchell and Phillips at their best were B+ guys, and I'd argue for a short while Mitchell was an A-. Baldomir, Ruiz, Andrade, and Mickey Ward never were above a C+ ever.
