Does anyone remember him? I just got done watching Hamada KO René Arredondo to win the WBC LWW belt, and then a year later lose it back to Arredondo (on cuts? Or an early stoppage). He retired after this fight at 27 y/o 21 (19)- 2. Arredondo lost the belt to Roger Mayweather following this. Any reason why he retired? And how would he have fared against Roger if they squared off. I looked for Hamada’s defence where he wins a decision over Ronnie Shields but no luck. Anyone remember him, he seems like a fun pressure fighter.
Went through his career last month (check the scorecard thread). Skiled pressure fighter, with massive power and aggression. Seemed slightly fragile, and career ended prematurely due to consistent hand problems. Great to watch, but a bit of a 'flash in the pan'. Seriously huge puncher for 135 and 140, almost unreal thudding ability. He did box in straight lines at times though despite his pressure skill, which cost him against Arredondo 2 (and bad training camp, injuries etc.). Hand injuries, a knee problem, and loss of desire as a result, probably forced the retirement. He's very big in the Asian boxing scene, not just for his achievements in the ring, but for promotion, boxing media etc. Still very prominent. Read this aswell. http://www.asianboxing.info/tsuyoshi-hamada.html
very cool read! Thanks for the link! I will check the scorecard thread later, getting ready to watch a Chitalada fight right now!
I'm about to go out my back door to battle 3 groundhogs, 17 squirrels' 5 possums and 1 racoon with a bad attitude for invasion of my forest behind my home.
You've linked to a fairly good article about him to be fair But yeah, a mega exciting glass cannon of sorts who we see almost weekly on Japanese boxing broadcasts and press conferences. He's essentially Honda's right hand man and the public face of Teiken
