Just wondering. Some people say Tyson was angry that he was losing the fight and that sparked him to bite Holyfield, but others say its because Holyfield angered him with the repeated headbutts and was only ever called out for it like once in the first fight. I think both arguments have merit but I do find it unlikely for Tyson to have gotten angry over losing as for what sparked it, mainly because he's lost several other times and never once did he bite someone. I think Holyfields rough housing tactics + Tysons short temper is what sparked it IMO. Anyways what do you guys think?
Hangry even. At first, I thought Mike was simply whispering sweet nothings into Evander’s ear. When Holyfield recoiled as he did, as a “devout” (devoured?) Christian, I figured he was just disgusted by Mike’s lewd suggestions. I thought Evander was only clutching his ear as if to visually indicate his shock non verbally, as if to say -“What did you just whisper in my ear?!!! As history proved, my initial “read” on that famous moment was slightly off the mark. Now, in a “joint” venture, they happily sell edible ears together. Crazy world we live in, isn’t it.
They sold Barbequed Ears with a touch of wax at the local Fair, at the food court to be exact. Heck, at the Fair you can buy a set of Dumbo sized ears that you can bite if you become too Frisky as Mrs. C would say on Happy Days. Ha Ha.
Fair question. Tyson had lost twice professionally prior to this fight. There were plenty of butts and low blows thrown in the first 2 rounds by Holyfield. Tyson, obviously frustrated that the fouls hadn’t been called, decided to have a snack in the middle of round 3.
Quote from Mike himself: "I was getting frustrated with all the head butts...but, to be honest, he was kicking my ass anyway."
Retaliation from the head butts is the simplified version. The truth is A Manly Man with a 2lb mouthpiece (Tyson) was still able to Open his mouth and slip his tongue into Holyfield's ear slightly distracting him before taking a bite out of headbutt crime's ear.
Hey Rich, Good mention. I always wondered if Mills continued Boxing if would have become the next Welterweight Champ (outside of the Marines).
