Hearns vs Mayweather at 147. Just to see Floyd getting trounced. In fact, I'd prefer the fight to be at 154!!
I wonder how'd he do against Gavilan. This fight is too close to call. I'd also like to see him clash swords with Monzon at MW.
Hearns, coming off Cuevas, against Duran coming off Montreal, to unify the welterweight title in late 1980. If El Cholo had signed for Tommy immediately after Hearns wiped out Pipino, instead of rematching SRL in New Orleans, he would have trained as if his life was on the line. Hearns was still just 21 going on 22, while Roberto was 29. I'm convinced that a wary Duran would have successfully consolidated the WBC and WBA titles by slipping inside and pummeling Tommy's lanky frame into a late round submission.
I was thinking about this fight the other day...could you be arsked for some specifics on how you think it plays? I think Hearns' jab is problematic, as it is for anyone at welter...Burley is fantastic at angles using his upper while his feet are in the pocket, would he be in Hearns' right hand range given his style? Bottom line...I think Burley can turn the fight with one shot...but I think Hearns would give him problems stylistically. Very possible Hearns could outpoint Burley at welter, IMO...But I would take Burley though.
atschWatch the fight, man. Duran was terrified of Hearns. Its the most one sided anniahlation of an ATG in the history of the sport. Duran fights scared, he wasnt even trying to get inside, he couldnt, he got clocked everytime he was in close range then flew straight back out. Hearns lifted him off his feet with a body shot. He absolutely dominated and destroyed Duran. A bad styles matchup if there ever was one. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DvPFKii9-A[/ame]
The thing with the Hearns jab - Burley had a freakish reach also don't forget. Depending on who you believe, the reach difference is either one or two inches in Hearns's favour. Burley also has faster hands and a "spearing" attack that is pretty much as good as it gets for suddenly closing the distance. Not only do I think Burley could out-jab Hearns, I think he would end up taking away that punch a combination of his own jab and the right hand. Hearns wouldn't be circling to his left much after the third (if he made it that far :yep) but only to his own right. Now Burley is stalking a vulnerable target for the most part in one direction only. I don't think that Hearns poses any kind of style difficulty for Burley when compared to guys like Williams and Marshall who were both considerably harder to find I bet.
