I was interested to know what are the equivalent achievements for comparison to Floyd's bests wins, which I think are generally thought of as Corrales, De La Hoya, Cotto, Alvarez, Pacquiao. For example how do they rate compared to famous signature victories such as Hearns vs Benitez, Duran vs Moore, Leonard vs Hagler, Chavez vs Taylor, SSR vs LaMotta, Holyfield vs Bowe etc. Feel free to discuss any other fight's you feel are highlights of Mayweather's career and how you would rate them historically to other great wins, not necessarily in same divisions but as comparable achievements.

    I like this topic.

    Mayweather—Corrales has parallels to Leonard—Hearns

Mayweather—Castillo has parallels to the Whitaker—Ramirez series

    Mayweather—Cotto…maybe Whitaker against McGirt

Mayweather—Oscar…kind of like Oscar against Chavez at least as far as passing the torch.

Mayweather—Pacquiao was the first pfp 1 and 2 fighting since Whitaker and Chavez and they both were a little past prime.

Mayweather—Canelo has nothing that compares. Whitaker—Vasquez is the closest I’m getting.

I don't know. He has some really good ones mixed in there like Judah, Corrales, Castillo.

Hatton is a nice win as well.

Cotto, Mosley, Pacman, and Oscar are hard to gauge because of opponent decline but all showed interesting aspects of FMJ's game.

Mayweather vs Canelo for me is like Greb vs. Rosenbloom.

    Thanks, very interesting as always!

I had not realized that Mayweather—Pacquiao was the first 1 vs 2 P4P fight since Whitaker-Chavez. There are clear parallels in the timing and the result, accept of course Pernell was robbed of a dominant win. Both have a feared opponent shutdown by a master boxer. I also remember the Oscar fight as feeling like a change of the guard and Mayweather assuming his position as number 1.

That's an interesting comparison. I don't know enough about Rosenbloom or this fight so will need to read up!

The Hatton win really convinced me Mayweather was a cut above. Probably because I was younger and a Brit I thought Ricky could pull it off but he was completely shut down. I was impressed how Floyd dealt with the pressure and barely broke a sweat.

Possibly Maidana fights could be compared to Whitaker - Rivera 1&2 and Castillo fights to Nelson vs Fenech 1&2, very close first fight followed by conclusive return.
