So that we can all be on the same page what is the definition of "shot"? What active boxers are shot? From many of the posts on ESB most of the former champions or even anyone who has a loss is classified as shot.
When a fighter loses some skills or the quality of them.. Mostly when they get old, they become slow, reflexes are not as quick, their stamina and workrate drops, and are just not as talented as they were when they are in their prime.. Current Shot Fighters: -Joel Casamayor -Ricky Hatton -Bernard Hopkins -Roy Jones Jr -Oscar De La Hoya -Evander Holyfield, Erik Morales, and Marco Barrera if they decide a comeback.
MAB since he is coming back..here is why he has alot of fights (66) and has been in a ton of wars..he just has alot of miles on him he took alot of punches and never backed down
It's entirely dependable on a fighter to fighter basis. Basically IMO it's dependent on how far their best attributes fall. If a fighter is light punching and defensive oriented...and one day their reflexes and ability to dodge punches is gone then they're a shot fighter. If they showcased an iron chin and now weak powder puff punches are wobbling them and putting them on the canvas then they're shot. It's hard to put a one word definition on something like this. It's such a case by case basis really.
When a boxer is very far from his prime. Ricky Hatton, Kelly Pavlik, Antonio Margarito....they are in their prime. Oscar de la Hoya, Zab Judah, Joe Calzaghe...are past their prime. It varies, a fighter can be slightly past his prime (like Wladimir Klitschko) or very past his prime (like Ricardo Mayorga). Not in their best but still competitive. Evander Holyfield, Chris Byrd, Fernando Vargas...they are shot.
I don't think it's something tangible. Some fighters adjust as they lose speed, movement etc...and still keep winning. I thinks it's a very individual thing and there's no pure technical definition. It comes down to human judgment.
Bull****. Ricky Hatton shot. :rofl :rofl You can't put Evander Holyfield and Erik Morales as shot fighters and include Oscar de la Hoya or Joel Casamayor in that group.
They sure as hell ain't as good as they use to be.. Hatton and Casamayor have struggled their past couple of fights and are bound to retire soon.. And why not put Holyfield and Morales as shot fighters? If they come back, they are..
i find workrate and amount of aggression shown to be the most accurate gauge.. look at bhop against trinidad compared to calzaghe.. shot!
shot boxer is a boxer who is a shadow of his former self.... be that defensively if he was defensive, or in RJJ his speed and reflexes are a shadow of before, so RJJ is shot!
ricky hatton is not shot, jst past prime.... there is a difference! DLH is hardly shot yet, 2 fights ago he nearly beat P4P king!we will see if he is shot against pac-man!hopkins is shot, RJJ is shot!
