Tyson got to the top of the mountain too though. The problem for both was staying there. Ultimately, their stylistic limitations caused both men's reigns to come to very shocking, even embarrassing ends, and neither one was ever able to regain their prior status or reputation once that happened.

The boxer/trainer relationship can make a huge diffrence. Mike Tyson and Kiven Rooney had one of the best. When they were broken up There were signs of Tyson not being the same boxer he was with Rooney.
Tyson's style was not desinged for a long career. Floyd Patterson who Cus D'Matto also devloped used a simmler style and was past his best by age 30. Who knows what would have happened had he not gone to prison. He probbly would have regained the tittle but by age 30 he would have been past his best as well.

Brooks took over the main role after the Czyz fight but Turner was always in the corner. Turner sucks. Where have you been?

Tyson's fall came by way of firing Kevin Rooney and leaving the Catskills and looking up Don King and a few homies, etc....... After D'Amato and Jacobs died, Tyson was a loose cannon looking to step in ****... Well, it didn't take him long....

John Horne and Rory Halloway as co-managers.... Yeah, that was bright...

Got a bad corner, surrounded himself with the wrong people, went to jail and lost a lot of years, went from slick crisp boxer to bad work ethic relying on a big punch and became a head hunter. He was his best before berbick in my opinion with Rooney in his corner and Cus alive "the only man who could get him in the gym and keep him mentaly straight" He got away from his good habits when he won the title. If you watch his fights before he wins the belt then watch the rest of his career his use of skills and combos decreases. And those 90's losses crippled his mental state plus jail. I also think much of his career relyed on that aura of invincibility once he got beat people did not fear him as much.

Don King was not the main reason Tyson went down the tubes. Don King was his promoter on a fight by fight basis. Don King arranged the Acefield tournament which crowned one undisputed champion. Don King had all the other heavyweights under contract and was not his manager until after the whole Givens scenario.
It was Robin Givens and Ruth Roper who convinced Tyson that Bill Cayton was robbing him blind. Tyson fired Cayton and Rooney and Lott went with him. When Givens jumped ship with Tysons money, Tyson turned to King, who assured Tyson he would be in charge and noone would steal from him, which obviously wasnt his intentions. King was just in the right place at the right time, to swoop up Tyson when he got left out in the cold. He assembled the circus of Snowell, Bright, Horne and Holloway after Givens F'd it all up.

:goodHe trusted the wrong people. Words of advice: never marry Robin Givens or trust Don King.
