Floyd is all about the money right now and it is obvious that a Cotto fight is not as big as it could be yet. So, for Cotto to make it bigger monetarily he must fight Oscar De la Hoya. I know it isn't the most appealing fight for the fans, but if Cotto can win decisively or by KO then the money will roll in for his next fight and everyone will know his name. The fans will be clamoring for Cotto v. Mayweather like they were for Hearns v. Leonard. They'll claim PBF is scared and the fight will be huge. That is the only way to make the fight happen.

How would getting knocked out by Oscar make Floyd want to fight him?

I think it's a tough fight for both - but in order to get the Mayweather fight - this is the fastest road to take.

Not the safest - but the fastest!

Cotto earned the shot when he beat Mosley. Mayweather needs to stop being such a ***** and give him the fight.

I just dont think he is motivated at this point of his career(which is sad). Give him a good long break and i think that itch with come back. Which is what usally happens. But if he rushes it like eg. rjj did with tarver, i dont think it would be good for him. I think an equally hungry/motivated mayweather can beat a already hungry cotto. Anything less i dont think mayweather will win. But with floyds talents i think he could pull it off but it would be hard. So i think that floyd SHOULD wait. And fight cotto when HE is ready mentally and physically.

Come on Dawg - Cotto won the fight - but not decisively.

That doesn't earn him the shot. You're thinking as a fan - not a business man.

A win against a past-prime ATG and former champ who chokes in big fights earns him a shot at the p4p champ?

Cotto is another WW titleholder coming off a stoppage of Judah and a close victory over Mosley. Why does he need to do anything else to earn a shot against the champ at that weight. If not Cotto, then who deserves a shot? And if noone does, then Floyd is retired and Cotto steps up as the man at WW......he should be anyway being that Floyd hasn't even fought a Welterweight in his last 2 fights. :deal

Who deserves to fight Floyd? This is whats wrong with boxing! Some people talk **** about MMA, but you bet your ass this fight would already be signed if Dana White ran this sport too.

Cotto is number one in line - I do agree with that.

But in a very entertaining fight - that some have Mosley winning - it's hard to throw him in the lion's den right after that. Cotto got hit when fighting Mosley - and he's not as fast as he used to be.

If you're going to take a lost - none better to take it against then the P4P best. But the P4P best isn't thinking like us. He's thinking about the $$$$$!

Beating Oscar will do nothing. How bout actually fighting a Paul Williams or another top guy in the division? If he wants to set fire under Mayweather start cleaning out the other top guys in the division.

And if Dana White ran boxing and rushed this fight it wouldn't be worth multimillions of dollars. Be patient, PBF wants the fight, but with more money. The fans want the fight, but with more hype. Timing is everything in boxing.
