Usually when im watching fights and the guy im up for is losing im screaming at the telly tryin to say what he should and shouldnt be doing, what he should be trying, all the usual armchair fan stuff. But last night i was silent, all i urged him to do was throw caution to the wind starting in the 9th, walking into the line of the right hooks to try land his own stuff, desperation stuff but at that point there was nothing left to do but try it. I will accept that the broken toe was an issue for him but saying he couldnt use his toes to land his power is 1 thing but if that was his plan and he still stuck to it i didnt really see him gettin into the right positions to land the bombs he couldnt throw properly anyway so it wasnt a massive deal for me. Toe or no toe he was strugglin to get close. Basiclly i just saw that he had no way around that jab, it was formidable, it was quicker than he and Booth had predicted and everything fell apart because of that. Vlads defence, take one step back, as easy as that. Really, what could Haye have done? He couldnt really step outside the jab to counter, i just dont know. The reach and size of Vlad beat him and the jab wasnt slow, the hooks either.
**** I think he could have done a HELL of allot more. And I dont like Haye. He has a great jab. (landed when he threw it) He should have used it with a peek a boo defense to rush inside and work from Walds chest. Alla Tyson-esk. Work the body all night long. Some reason he tries and tries to just rabbit punch people. (see fight with Mormec) BUT since didnt give a **** about winning. Just about $ and saying "oh nut if I wasnt injured I would have knocked him out)
He should have used his jab more and followed up on him overhand right. He would throw ip almost land and have the left hook wide open to throw and just back odd. Also he should have punched and exploded when Wlad clinched him. He did it very well in the 12th round. He should have fought in the 12th like that the whole fight
And if he was so injured, then why talk all that ****? I have a feeling David Haye learned a lot about himself tonight.
I certainly agree Haye had, HAD, to be alot more aggresive than he was, throw alot more, including jabs, his jab seemed to be ok when he threw it 1st. But i just got the impression that he felt that trying anything different to what he was doing would be suicidal and fall straight into the lap of Vlad to take advantage of. So he didnt do it. But by the 8th or 9th he should of realised he was ****ed if he didnt knock him out and shoulda gone gung ho at that point at the very latest. Not the 12th. Thats way too late.
No one has to fight Haye any more...so he might as well retire. Tyson Fury don't have to fight him either....be stupid to do so...he couldn't catch him. I don't know if Mayweather could catch him.
He slipped alot of Vlads jabs, why did he slip them but not counter??? He slipped a fair few on the outside too where Vlads right had no chance of follwing up the jab so why not attack then? I know range was against him and his broken toe too, but your in there ****ing throw something. I say he slipped alot of the jabs, he also took alot more. I dont wana make it sound like he made a mockery of the jab cuz it was a fantastic tool for Vlad, always is.
He fought how he usually fights. He's never had a high workrate at heavyweight, he's never been a come forward brawler and anyone expecting a Tyson like charge where only ever going to be disappointed. He moves, jabs and looks to counter and on coming opponent or corner an opponent then unloads like he did against Macarinelli. Wlad moved well and rarely let Haye in a position to let his punches go, forcing Haye to lunge in all to often and minimising Haye's workrate. Had Haye been in a position to throw more often he would have done but he simply never found himself in range and in position. Only thing Haye could have done better really is cut off the ring better, that was always going to be key but like I said he really is a boxer who fights off the back foot rather than on the front foot. Wlad simply executed his strategy to perfection and never allowed himself to get caught up in a fight, which really was Haye's only chance coming into the fight, hence all the mind games and antics in the build up to the fight.
Haye was making Wlad miss with the jab. When Wlad missed with the jab, it should'nt have been that difficult for Haye to throw his own jab (doubling it even) and then unleach a right after blinding Wlad with the jab. It was evident to me that Haye was significantly quicker and faster than Wlad to get off. Of course when you're offensive, you leave yourself exposed for retaliation. Anyone that knows anything about boxing already knew from the start that in order for Haye to win, he needed to take some chances to work his way in. ......chances that Haye was'nt willing to take. A pity really if you're a Haye fan, because I thought Wlad looked slower than I thought he would be against Haye tonight. If you see the fight again, pay attention to the leverage that Wlad uses against Haye. Wlad used very little leverage and snap to his punches because he sensed he could'nt get off against Haye's speed. Wlad actually looked vulnerable to getting countered with speed. Haye just did'nt have the balls to take that chance and let his hands go in an attempt to take advantage of his speed.
