It's impossible to predict exactly what would have happened, but I imagine at the very least he would have beaten Douglas and gone on undefeated for a while longer.

He would have been better, and more focused for longer.

But Tysons problems during this period were repressed due to his discipline and life in the ring. The were not nonexistant, and eventually they would have surfaced.

Hard to say really. It is entirely possible that, as Tyson's earnings and fame skyrocketted, D'Amato would have had nearly as much difficulty reigning in Tyson's excesses as Jacobs and later Cayton did. And King would have always been there, trying to steal Tyson away. Don't forget that there were incidents when D'Amato was alive that foreshadowed some his later behavior when he became the biggest star in boxing.

I think people tend to overestimate the influence that D'Amato would have had as Tyson became a bigger star. It might have delayed Tyson's descent into chaos somewhat, but I doubt it would have prevented it.

Tyson would've done better, but still had problems. There's only so much Cus and his team could do for a disturbed person like Tyson.

It's not like Tyson always stayed out of trouble and was mentally stable during his teenage years under Cus.

Tyson was going to end up becoming insane and destroying himself at some point anyways. Cus D'Amato living a few extra years would have slowed that path down. He was capable of disciplining Tyson in a way that no one else ever could.

In addition, it does not matter who would have survived or whatnot, because Lennox and Evander were always going to be there and Tyson would have never beaten either of them.

    Cus was not a jailor.

Sooner or later Tyson would have ****ed up - this is because, great fighter though he was, he was a **** up.

Tyson would have always had trouble with the Real Deal. 1990-92, Holyfield was a counter attacking machine, with blistering speed and repectable power. Not too forget the granite chin, huge heart and determination. But Lewis? ****, a 1996 version of Tyson would have most likely have beaten him. Could you imagine what Lewis would have done if a prime, 12 round-ready Tyson came trotting out towards him? Lewis would be like a deer caught in headlights.....

Under Cus, Rooney, and Jacobs, Tyson would most likely have had a longer reign. Instead of 4yrs, I would expect he would have went 7-9 years at his reign. Tyson maybe would have broken Marciano's record, too. Cus, Rooney, and Jacobs were his parent/ support figures, and they helped keep Tyson on the tracks. Tyson needed those people around him because there was nobody else there to keep him on the right path. Tyson was legally adopted by Cus, and had no real parents or father figures. Tyson's mom died when he was young, and I've never heard anything about a father.

After Cus d'Amato died, it just started going downhill for him. It didn't help that he got into the claws of Don King.

Cus was the person, who taught Tyson to turn his aggression into something positive - namely boxing. Without him, Tyson would have seen jail before the age of 16.

So, had Cus lived, Tyson would never have gotten off track once he reached fame. Tyson simply became a frustrated angry person once again, and threw his talents out the window with wild lifestyle and irrisponsible acts - which in the end resulted in - jail - then a shadow of his former self.

I would have been interested to see how Cus would have dealt with Don King..

One of my best friends works in insurance in London and one of his jobs was doing Mikes car premiums..yes he did it through Lloyds! Every time he bought a flash car (he had around 15-20 cars)I would be the first to know! There were stipulations- Not sure, but I think a couple of cars he was not even allowed to drive- someone had to drive him!

Not just if Cus had lived on but what about if he had never met the she-devil Robin Givens either. I've watched a couple of shows where it showed how she basically sapped all the fire and manhood out of him as well as his money. It even stated once where a reporter was waiting for Mike and she was talking to him (the reporter) she told Mike he had not taken a long enough shower and he just put his head down, turned around and got back in the shower for 20 more minutes. I think Givens is what ****ed Mike up for a large part.
