The problem I find with alot of these questions is that in the UK and often Europe, the HWs tend to often get matched tougher before getting an opportunity to go further.
Few examples of fights for the British HW title
Dubois/Gorman coming up (both undefeated) 12th fight and 17th fight respectively
Fury/Chisora (both undefeated) 15th fight for both
Joshua/Whyte (both undefeated) 15th fight and 17th fight respectively

They are tough fights where it can drain a fighter and often in these situations only one gets the go through (not always).
I have wondered before if a fighter can have too many of these tough fights before they get to having their big opportunity

I dont recall Wilder, Miller, Martin, Breazeale etc having to have gone through such a potentially big tough (when I say tough, I also mean the size of the fight and emotional pressure) match before a world title opportunity. Not saying they didnt or meaning anything disrespectful but I dont recall them in fights of that magnitude. As said I could be very wrong and happy to be corrected if I am

    The UK
    Dubois
    Joyce
    Gorman
    Wardley
    Allen
