What current fighter (or recently retired) has a chance to be in school textbooks?

It is extremely, extremely rare that a fighter reaches a plateau where he made such an impact on the sport of boxing that he is taught about in school. The only one that I can think of the kids learn about in school is Muhammad Ali. There may be a few others - some black fighters, like Joe Louis or Jack Johnson that are taught about because of "racial firsts" reasons, but I'm not even 100% sure if they are taught about

...I know for a fact that kids get taught about Ali, and perhaps that is a plateau that will never again be reached. Maybe no fighter will ever make as big an impact on boxing and the sports world as Ali did, but what current fighter - or a guy within the last 20 years or so has the best chance to be mentioned in textbooks? I can't think of any...Sugar Ray Leonard, perhaps? :think

I think Ali would be the only one. If Ali was simply a champion boxer he wouldn't get a mention in school textbooks. However, he was also a kind of political or social symbol that elevated him from a champion boxer status.

I don't see anyone in being taught about in textbooks from the recent generation. Although, maybe Pacquiao will be taught about in textbooks in the Phillipines.

Ali is not in textbooks because of the impact he had on the sport of boxing. He's in textbooks for being a high profile black man that refused to go a highly controversial war right in the middle of the civil rights movement.

Mike ****ing Tyson is already in Law School books:

    Criminal Law
    Sports Management
    Tax Law
    Family Law

I'm sure he will if he hasn't already appeared in High school textbooks by now, he will soon.

ODLH - With the 'browning' of America, his success story and one time ability to serve as the marketing face of the sport will grow in importance.

His success story is as American as it gets.

No one mentioned emmanuel Pacquiao? He probably won't be in textbooks worldwide, but what about for the books in his country?
