It matters. Things don't happen in a vacumm. We don't know who's great until later. Remember, Jones competition was considered weak at LHW. Then once Jones went down, alot of those fighters won titles or were solid top contenders putting on good showings against the new champs, proving he was fighting the best LHW's available.

It matters......just not as much as it used to.

Not really:nono A lineal title that hasnt been UNIFIED isnt really that impressive SEE ERDEI:lol:

And?? Floyd's got 2 not 3:nono Ring Belts and Lineal titles arent the same thing:cool:

    5 alpha straps, 2 Lineal titles.:yikes

Unifying 2 divisions weigh's much more than 5 alpha straps in my book any day:good

Why couldn't people tell from the performances of Jones' opponents that they were very good/top fighters, even if their resumes weren't impressive to date?:huh

no he wasn't. pac has won titles at 112, 122, and 130.

go to boxrec and look it up. if he beats diaz at 135 that will be 4 titles. pac has a chance to make history by beating diaz as very few fighters in the modern era have woin four titles in four weight classes.

pac would be on a very short list and if he happens to get by diaz and attempts legandary greatness for a fifth title at 140 then I would rank him top 50 all time

Its a different feat though for someone in the lower divisions, as opposed to someone fighting in the higher weight classes. For instance, Roy jones winning titles at MW, SMW, LHW and HWY is FAR more impressive then someone like Floyd winning multiple divisional world titles, as it is harder to move up in the higher divisions. This is due to the weight difference between divisions becoming greater and greater, and making more of an impact on the fighter.

Naseem Hamed beat all 4 champions at 126 (dropped most of the belts and one champ was stripped just prior to fighting him for trying to unify, much like Corrales was before fighting Mayweather) and was Lineal. Barrera beat him, Pacquiao beat Barrera giving Pacquiao a lineal title at 126.
