Smothering/controlling opponents on the inside like Roberto Duran. Duran was far from slow and had great defense at middle and long range but his ability to easily deflect punches in a phone booth fight is a type of defense that is not reliant on athleticism.

Doesn`t it ruin your low center of gravity if you hod your gloves up? It makes it harder to move your head with fluidity.

He was great at slipping Ray`s shots in Montreal too, Leonard said he was shocked at how hard it was to hit Duran.

Mauricio Herrera is a good example. He was always rolling with punches even if they still landed. He could usually avoid single shots very easily but he got hit a lot when his opponents put their punches together. Danny Garcia was trying to time Herrera with counters all night and has little success yet much lesser fighters like Provodnikov, Alvarado, and Mayfield were jacking his jaw violently because they either have a more awkward rhythm or they throw in combination.
