linear champ in two divisions
Which divisions were these exactly? Lacy wasn't "linear champ" nor was Eubank, Erdei (sp?) is linear champ at light heavy if anybody is.
Maybe you're right about the light heavy thing, I forgot about Erdei, just remember back to the old Jones "undisputed" days. At super middle neither guy was linear champ, however, surely you establish lineage by unifying all the belts which Calzaghe did. Otherwise, we will eventually reach a stage where there is no lineage in any weight class.
even if the is not ATG he is still a really good fighter he is deceptively good he hammered a "shot" Roy Jones had a real close one with Hopkins who has proved despite his advanced age he is one of the best fighters in the game either side of the Calzaghe fight he outclassed Tarver and Pavlik and that was Calzaghes American debut
Winky Wright was fighting at 154 when Joe called him out...why would Joe be calling out a light middleweight 154 when hes fighting at Super Middle 168...8 years ago Bhop was coming off a huge win over Trinidad and in a position to get bigger fights..8 years ago Joe was only known by some European boxing fans..he wasn't much of anything over here...only the die hard fans even knew who he was....8 years ago Roy was once defeated (Disqualification) and he would have done to Joe what Joe did to a past his prime RJJ
I actually think B-Hop won that fight. He landed the harder and cleaner shots,Joe just slapped his way to victory
you're a ****ing cretin. go watch calzaghe-kessler again. calzaghe put on a clinic and comprehensively outboxed kessler from the outside, mixing jabs and superb body work to wear his opponent down. his punching technique was pretty damn good for the most part against kessler. it's stupid bull**** posts like this that get picked up upon and spread as gospel through ESB. calzaghe DID NOT slap his way to a decision against kessler.
Big difference between Paquaio and Calzaghe is their opponents. While Manny had little problem getting the proud Mexican boxers in the ring willing to prove themselves,Calzaghe struggled to get any of the top guys to fight him,i.e. a single German and a few American boxers to worried about weighing up risk vs reward than proving themselves.Lacy gets much respect from me for simply having the balls to come to UK to challenge Calzaghe.
He gave 2 American boxing legends Mississippi sized ass whippings in America, has been a world champion for 12 years,2 weight world champion,46-0 and won ABA titles at 3 different weights. Apart from that...............:yep
He didnt give B-Hop an ass whooping(but he did give jones one)and it took him 10 years to unify the belts!
What racist **** is this! (seeing as the 3 American boxing legends that you refer to are black)
Anybody that has to ask that question is oviously a hater. The guy defended his title 21 times....Unified against a excellent unbeaten Champion Kessler, dominated unbeaten Jeff Lacey...right then and there he proved to be one of the greatest at 168...then he moved up to light heavy clearly beat B-Hop(who is fighting better than he ever did) who was faking a low blow to save himself from the pace....then dominated Roy Jones to cap off a career and retired at 37 on top...Calzage was one of those guys that adapted to every style and had a little bit of everything to do so. He may have not been the greatest puncher but like Roy Jones said"those were not slaps) he opened Jones up...He also had incredible hand speed....Calzage ATG....YES...best at 165...top 3....175..would give anyone a battle
You can`t win a fight by throwing half a dozen punches a round, hugging your opponent for the rest of the round and feigning low blows.
The kind of people who claim that Marciano was the greatest HW of all time are the kind of people who claim that Calzaghe is an ATG.
