Cotto never stunned or staggered Shane and never was able to stop him from coming forward. So getting that out of the way right away. What can Cotto do and what did he do to neutralize Mosley, and not "get knocked out" that Floyd won't be able to do?
The indistructable myth was what gave mosley too much respect for cotto..therefore not really taking too many chances...untill later in the fight when he started to let loose and be more aggresive. Mosely was impressed with cotto's speed and jab... wait till he see's some speed and jab from floyd. I wonder if he's gonna spar with floyd and make it an exibition or come at him like oscar did in the early rounds of de la hoya/mayweather
This is an easy one, Cotto's timing. Cotto's not nearly as fast as Mosley, but he made up for it by timing his shots.
Well, I think Cotto is a harder puncher and generally has heavier hands than Floyd, but thats about all. Floyd does everything else better. So its unlikely Floyd can discourage Mosley from being aggressive, however his mobility is much better than Cottos. So, even though Floyd doesn't have the power to make Mosley think twice about coming forward, his superior mobility and boxing skills compared to Cotto might make that moot. That being said, there will be some point where Floyd is going to have to stand his ground with Mosley and that is going to tell us a lot.
leaping left hook is going to be mosleys punishment unless he adds it to a nice combo like...body..body..left hook... if he just wildly throws it like he sometimes does... floyd will be waiting for that signature punch.
I'd say Cotto has the better jab and was at his best in the Mosley fight. He also threw combinations in the Mosley fight which Maweather will need to do if he wants to discourage Mosley, Cotto has the heavier hands too. But I think Mayweather limits Mosleys offence with jabs to the body and footwork before earning himself a decision.
If you think Mosley is the same fighter with Richardson that he was with Papa Mosley you are kidding yourself. Mosley with his father who listen is not a bad trainer but he cant teach Mosley anything new and he cant develop good strategys at that level. When Mosley fought Margarito when before had you seen Mosley doubling and trippling stiff jabs ? Never this will be Mosley's 3rd camp with Richardon I think they are a match made in boxing heaven.
this is true... he totally reinvigorated mosley ..gives him sound advice and has protected mosley from a possible plaster handed pummeling
Cotto's got a better jab than PBF and stood his ground/came forward. Floyd's got ridiculously fast hands but not a great jab, plus he'll in all likelihood spend the fight moving away from Shane and on the ropes.
Floyd has probably the fastest jab, Cotto had probably the strongest one at WW. Against Mosley, he surprised alot of people because he hardly fought like the stalker most knew him to be. He also used angles, which Floyd does better. But it's not that they can't, it's that they won't. Just because Cotto was a great bodypuncher, stalker type didn't mean he couldn't box, just like Floyd is known for his defense and potshots, he seems to have what it takes to be a combination puncher, but he rarely does it because he doesn't have too. So, to clear things up, the Mosley that fought Cotto is not the same Mosley that fought Margarito. Cotto used combinations, used the ring, was more active, and excellent footwork to beat Shane. Just like Cotto changed for that fight, so might Mosley, who's never used his jab other than to close the range, and so might Floyd. The thing about Floyd, he's had so much success with this defensive style ever since he's been at 147 he doesn't have to change anything because he hasn't fought an opponent of Mosley's caliber. Like I've said before, maybe Mosley can push Floyd into doing something we haven't seen yet.
"The Mosley that fought Margarito" .......I hate ****ing hearing that. It was a style thing, NOBODY knows whether if Mosley was actually any better the night he fought Margo then he was the night he fought Cotto. He actually looked a bit faster on his feet and his upper body movement looked quicker against Cotto. Watch the fights again.
