Absolutely right, AF. Like Rodney Dangerfield: They don't get any respect.

Jones was his own worst enemy. "A businessman first, a boxer second." His words.

"He didn't dare to be great."

how about roy growing a pair of balls and fighting the winner of DM v Hill instead of the loser

oh i forgot, roy jones never beat a lineal champion in his entire career :oops::smoke

oh for ****s sake, clinton woods is the definition of 'limited plodder' who made the very most of his limited ability to beat a fighter (glen johnson) who had already previously lost to fighters like sheika, branco, gonzales, vanderpool, ottke, sosa, and kiwanuka :lol::lol::lol::lol:

its fanboy comments like the above that make it so important that team elite are here on esb to educate delusional, narrow minded, ignorant fanboys who have spent there entire lifes taking as gospel the bias brainwashing that has been wrote in ring magazine and spoken on HBO year after year, decade upon decade :dead:-:)patsch

if clinton woods was fighting at the bottom of my garden i would close the curtains, woods couldn't sell out his local pub for a fight :patsch

Clearly you feel strongly, H. Did you feel that way early when RJ was an up-n-coming middleweight?

But the guy did go on to be a title holder. Fight good fighters and never come close to being taken apart the way Jones did right?

Johnson may have lost to those fighters but he also beat top class fighters including Tarver. The guy is STILL giving the top smw's in the world tough fights like in the Froch fight and hes into his 40s!

And his loss to Ottke is generally considered one of the robberies that Ottke got in his reign.

A completely shot and old Woods still gave Tavoris Cloud a close fight, and Cloud is considered one of the top light heavies today.

He beat Gonzales twice(the guy who retired DM)

He was a solid world level fighter, and Roy Jones clowned him for 6 rounds.

no the fact is that roy has never fought a lineal champion in his entire career

how can a fighter be the best when he refuses to fight the man in the division he is in :-(

look closely at the names jones fought over a 5 / 6 year period

    - del valle
    - otis grant
    - richard frazier
    - shot reggie johnson
    - david talesco
    - richard hall
    - eric harding
    - derrick harmon
    - gonzales
    - glen kelly
    - clinton woods

it has to be the worst 175 era in boxing history and jones also got caught for banned anabolic steroids during this period.

look at those names again, roy jones was recognised as p4p number 1 for this 5/6 year peroid - what a ****ing joke  could you imagine pacquiao or mayweather getting away with fighting a string of road sweepers like that when they were p4p number 1 :rofl

clinton did great, he made the very most of his limited tools but roy jones is an horrific style match up for woods, though it is worth noting that none of the other fighters you mentioned are proven banned anabolic steroid users.

roy clowned him, he also clowned pazienza, sheika, lacy, talesco.

your point is one of those comparisons which doesn't hold any relevance in my book.

foreman beat frazier and norton far more convincing that ali did, does that make foreman greater than ali?

This is so ironic coming from a guy with Slappy Joe in his avatar.

(Agreed about the glass jaw part, though)

Fighting the lost of Hill-Michalzcewski proves nothing. Jones was never the #1 175lber.

no i was boxing mad as youngster (massive ray leonard fan), i was 11 when i saw jones' first fight at the seoul olympics and i was buzzing, i thought we were watching the new ray leonard, i stopped up to watch all of roys fights in those olympics, so i was a fan from word go (whilst the majority of fanboys on here were still swimming in their daddys testicles for years).

wasn't easy to keep in touch with fighters early career back then with no internet or satelite tv over here so i kept my eyes peeled for him coming through and looked out for roy in boxing magazines.

i liked jones a lot as an up and coming middleweight, i loved the flash fighters like ali and ray leonard.
