He's the best heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis retired. With his now 3 bad losses and the competition of his era he can't hold the jockstrap of any heavyweight champion before Lewis though.
Depends on criteria. He's still one of the most dominant champions the sport has ever seen. He just isn't as unbeatable as people would like to believe.
Was Wlad 50 years old?. Did Hopkins beat the #1 in the division against Dawson like Wlad did with Povetkin? Wlad was the massive favourite to win because he still had the goods. He was the best he's ever been just two fights ago so stfu
Wilder sucks. He got kncoked down by Nichols, Scoiners, rocked by Molina, and had his eyes busted up by Duhaupas. He couldn't stop a guy who was stopped by Demetric King and dropped by Derrick Rossy. He is a top 30 heavy due to clever matchmaking and nothing more.
About as much as Mayweather's legacy would have been tarnished if he'd been KO1'd vs GGG at 155. :good
It hurts a little bit. It confirmed that Wlad was a good bigger man feasting on smaller guys and bums. When he met a a man his own size that was not slow as a snail, he lost. Wlad will still be well respected though. He reigned for a long time and that counts for something. He's not cracking top 5 anymore though. If he would have beaten the record for longest reign with most championship fights he might have had a top 5 argument.
I want to say no it will not effect his legacy, however there is always going to be the question lingering that "Did he lose because he faced someone bigger than him?" due to the competition level at heavyweight Wlad really needs to win as much fights as he can I still think hes a HOF guy just not ATG (never was btw)
lol, that doesn't make him great. It shows, exposes that he used an advantage to get to where he is and not thru skill or overcoming difficulty.
