Exactly. This ref did exactly what refs should do. He let the fighter continue and watched him closely to see if he would be able to recover and stay in the fight. As a result, Montiel got every chance he could to win and fans got to see the fight go to its natural conclusion. This is exactly as it should be, in every fight. No doubt, no premature calls by panicked refs. Boxing fans should applaud this. This is how boxing should be.
damn, these mexicans are fvckin warriors! i like what he said in the interview that they both have the KO power and that it was just him who first made a mistake and paid for it. I hope recovers fast physically/mentally.
Are you kidding me. I thought the whole point of asking a fighter to come forward, and put his gloves up, was to test his wherewithall and his legs. Here the ref ask the guy to put his arms up, and gets a lost stare in return and based on that concluded that he was OK??:huh A blind man could have seen that Montiel was out of there.
I was okay with the ref giving him the count, but Montiel obviously could not respond to the instructions. At that point, the fight has to be halted. And while the ref understandably didn't see the kicking, the corner certainly did and should have stepped in. Montiel was out of it for several minutes afterward. Glad the situation didn't get worse.
