What Did Oscar Do Better Than Sugar Ray Leonard

Oscar De La Hoya later wore fashionable Fishnets, Sugar Ray Leonard never did.

 

His jab was better (his left is his dominant hand)
And Oscar parried shots better than Sugar Leonard.

Those are the only two things.

 

Leonard had one good round of body punching against Hearns, round 7, and that’s only because Hearns stood in front of him or rested on the ropes. Hearns took control again from rounds 7-12 and had Leonard hurt several times. Most of Leonard’s scarce body punches for the remainder of the fight were jabs or glancing arm punches while on the chase. There was nothing world class or special about Bonds, he had no business being in the ring with Leonard in the first place. He was canon-fodder to help build Leonard’s confidence after his fights with Duran.

 

Why would Leonard need his confidence built after he had just made Duran quit in the previous fight?
Was Bond a slick South paw or wasn't he? Every ATG in history has had opponents that could be described as " Cannon Fodder" my point was mainly how Leonard's body attack broke him down.
Did Leonard's body shots in the 6th rd turn the fight from Hearns being the hunter to him being the hunted?
Of course Hearns changed tactics, Leonard's great body attack forced him to. A credit to Hearns for not being a one trick pony, a bigger credit for Leonard for not only not being a one trick pony, but also finding away to win.......

nothin' that i can see. i'd pick srl to beat odlh 7 or 8 of 10 times, but there's no no shame in that. srl is a legend as is oscar if slightly lesser. which welter would you pick to beat a prime oscar since he hung em up? MAYBE Floyd or MAYBE Pac who are both legends in their own right. prime for prime it's not fanboi to pick prime oscar over either on any given nght, imo.

 

I think you have to give ODLH the jab and thats it for me. Because he would base everything off the jab, jump in throw flurries
and jump out ,, sort of robot like at times. SRL was so confident, relaxed and smart , his ring IQ, knowing where he was distance wise without needing the jab to establish it ( although he did jab to the body perfectly to open up Mayweather ) ,, but relied more on his movement, and going to the body to open up 5 quick ones to the cabeza .. The overall difference in skill, durability, and stamina is quite noticeable between these 2

I agree with this .. SRL had one of the best left hooks to the body ever, so underrated going to the body as I think its his best punch .. Like I have said before ask Mayweather SR and like you say against hearns 1,, you can hear his body shots THUD even over the roar of the crowd in the Hearns fight ..

 

Catch and block because Leonard fought proper and evaded shots instead.

 

Strongly disagree, respectfully so. but I’d like to hear why you think that.

 

Oscar's spoon game was miles better than SRL, let's just leave it at that.
