What did people think of Brian Nielsen matching Rocky Maricano's 49-0 record?

I was going off memory thinking Holmes won that, but no, he was robbed.

If Nielsen "beat" any version of Larry Holmes, rigged cards or not, I'll give him credit for surviving the distance on his feet so they could go to the rigged scorecards. Props for that, if not much else.

I think he had some curiosity factor since his early fights were not easily watched in the pre-YouTube era. Not much else, probably? Certainly no noteworthy hubbub amongst the serious fans who would've been tracking him.

 

that whole Danish scene in the 90s was before my time, but is fascinating to me. hasn’t it been pretty much confirmed that the Palles paid extra to opponents who lost? hence Emannuel Augustus’s hilarious swan dive in the last 10 seconds of his fight over there

Not you best day at the office. The Augustus v. Vester fight was not a Mogens Palle promotion, but Anders Vester.
Augustus was acting like a fool before and during the fight, and was way behind on points when he just went of the rails. (again)
On the other hand Mogens Palle did not pay american opponents to loose. He just paid them to eat, and they were much better eating than training.
By the way, I had Holmes winning against Nielsen. Funny thing is that the "Home" judge gave it to Holmes and the american judge gave it to Nielsen.
