What Did Saul Alvarez Do to Be Ranked Highly?

Didn't hold Alvarez taking it lightly against him but as soon as he became a "champion" is when I started criticizing his resume. Facing older fighters like N'dou, Mosley, and Baldomir doesn't impress me.

Rather him face Lara and Kirkland which are winnable fights if he is as talented as those claim. Also hate when people call him a "prospect", he's had 39 fights and has a belt he needs to challenge himself more. Dzinziruk would be a good fight too.

Am I harsh and critical? don't care. He's an adult and shouldn't be pampered the guy should face the best he can to see and show people how good he is. If he did I wouldn't be bitching and would be another critic shutten up.

He was rocked ONCE, and the younger better Cotto was rocked by Corley who was 17 pounds lighter than Cotto...But look what Cotto accomplished.

I heard on HBO that Canelo claims that he has 50ish wins (additional ones that weren't properly recorded). Do you know what his exact statement and number is? Might have been additional fights in the amateurs.

Younger Cotto is a B level fighter...so is Alvarez.

 

Mexico has unsanctioned bouts. I know of a local fighter, Andres Ramos who would travel to Mex and fight and those fights would not appear on his record.

 

Who should be ranked ahead of Alvarez that isn't? Cotto and Alvarez have the best combination of talent and accomplishments in that division. With that being said, they do need to step up Alvarez's comp. Shane is a good start. if he wins, they should definitely put him in there with a top 10 guy in September.

I don't think so. I like Kirkland, but he was on his way to a clear cut loss to Molina. He was also KO'd by Ishida. He's had some nice wins, but he's not talented enough and doesn't have a strong enough resume to be ahead of Alvarez.

Alvarez has currently done nothing to secure a fight with Floyd,
hence why he didnt get one and now has to earn one.

For Floyd to fight Alvarez, its a legacy investment.
If Mayweather was to defeat Alvarez - then Alvarez go onto greatness,
that will only enhance Floyds legacy.

But, we have to see more of Alvarez to be sure he is the real deal.
Feeding him Mosley is a start, we cant be sure Shanes shot as Pac/PBF
would do and have done that to top shelf fighters in the past.

 

Molina got robbed against Kirkland and Lara. He's at least on their level if not better.
