Highest ever viewing figures, 10,000 in an arena for a non title fight for two guys that have never main evented infront of more than 3,000.

So what did Sky and Matchroom do differently?

Allot of us scoffed at the fight when it was origonally made.

They promoted it like a PPV fight towards the end of the promotion and made it feel like an event rather than just a fight. Dubbing it war of the roses helped and the fact Kell was fighting a Hatton also helped.

They talked about it every day. That's pretty much all you have to do sometimes as Haye/Harrison proved.

I think alot was due to the undercard fights also being good fights and popular fighters / prospects.

It was always a good fight. Also, Kell was 1-25 and still people wanted it, that's what a fights does.
There was a lot of SKY action and Matchroom pushed it online and on Twitter. National paper coverage on day, on night and today as good as zippp.
I was an event and that was how I sold it across every format.

    Adios.

So how comes Brook was stuck on undercards for 6 years under his former promoter when a fight agaisnt an opponent he was odds on to beat got 10,000?

You said Matt would give him a tough fight and could cause an upset Buncey?

  11. You just knew that Rob was going to lay into him there

I don't recall Brook being that short on price, unlike Clev vs Karpency of course which was about a million to one on.

I havent watched too much of the promotion and didnt even watch the fight because I dont have Sky.

BUT i can give a few reasoned guesses.

They took a well known name Hatton which has a certain brand apeal to it because of Ricky if you look at Matt's viewing figures on Sky they have always been quite good in comparison to other usual shows.

They then dubbed it war of the Roses and put it in Sheffield and made it a go to event in Sheffield. People know who Kell Brook is because he might be Sheffields next big thing. ie somebody that Sheffield can be proud of so you want to cheer for him and get behind him. So I dont know I can only guess but I believe that Matchroom will have been flogging Kell like mad in the local media.

He went as long as 1-25. I did think Matt would make it closer.

    Adios.
