How did you pass the time? Lifting weights, still training other parts or working around your injury, or doing nothing on the sidelines?
Do what you can -- depends on the injury. If it's a hand, work on the other one. If it's a leg or foot, that's harder to work around but there are still things you can do.
I do my best to eat an anti-inflammatory diet to expedite the healing process, but I continue to work out. I've very stubborn. It's very rare where I'll break down and finally decide to take a week off. Unfortunately, this tends to have the negative affect of prolonging my injury instead of making things better. What's your injury?
Also depends on such things as: What sort of injury, age, what shape the fighter is in (pre-injury) and, perhaps most importantly, what caused the injury. If you've trained 340 days a year for five years without a break and you sustain an injury that might be in part caused by never allowing your body to heal, you probably need to take a break for a month or two. Working through pain -- the soreness and bruises and such that come from regular training -- is not the same as working through injury. Most of all, ask your doctor. If he says stay off your feet for a week, or you've got a knuckle injury and he says don't hit the bag for a month, going against medical advice is just asking for a one-time problem to become a chronic problem.
Sprained ankle...now the ligament is in danger of rupturing if I keep going hard on it...was told to take 2-3 months off...will be seeing a sports doctor this week for a second opinion on how to work around.
when i broke my left hand i just kept up with my running everyday so i wouldnt be out of shape. other than that i played video games haha
I broke my hand pretty bad and I spent a ton of time watching fights and drilling my right hand on the double end bag. Got pretty good with my right and totally lost my hook lol. Cardio would have been a great idea but sweat and casts don't go well together so I avoided anything strenuous. Took a massive toll on my fitness.
I have to admit I've stayed away from the gym for the last week and a half due to a shoulder injury. It happened 3 months ago and I'd been working around it; trying not to make things worse. It hasn't improved at all so it's been very discouraging.
I hurt my hand before so I just shadow boxed, go for a run, and basic calisthenics to keep in shape. I couldn't do mitts, sparring, or hit the bag because the pain was too much when I was punching with my sprained hand, so I just layed off from the gym about few weeks until it got better. I'm kinda a gym rat so I felt horrible when I couldn't go to the gym, but if you have a injury it's best to let it heal and try to do exercises you can do to keep in shape.
