Barring the result, did it live up to your expectations in terms of excitement? Was it worth all the hype?
Amazing fight. Fight of the year for me because of the high quality chess and decent action. It was completely worth it, when do we see two prime ATG's in terms of H2H battle it out? I can't think of another time in recent history.
It lived up to my hype, and nothing pleases me more than a fight that is full of tactics, strategy and tricks. This was an exemplary exhibition of the Sweet Science. The fight was full of tension and had a very significant shift of momentum right in the middle of the fight, making it a fight of two halves which was tense all the way through, leading to a decision filled with uncertainty.
I thought it was a great fight I had no real idea who would win right up until the result was announced. Speed, power, skills, a knockdown, heart. It had pretty much everything.
I thought Kovalev was killing him from the outside early on...and thought he broke Ward mentally in round 2...Ward almost knew it was over for him...but the time in the corner and slap from Virgil made him fight on. Then it became an ugly fight with Ward making sure he closed distance at every opportunity and clinching which made it ugly and horrible. Thought Ward won most of the second half of the fight and won by 1-2 rounds...
I really enjoyed it. It was a far better fight than I thought it would be. It did get a bit ugly at times, but it was more entertaining than I ever expected. I don't really care about the decision. It was a pretty close fight and it isn't the worst home cooked decision I ever saw. The previous fight, Hooker vs Perez was a far worse decision. I thought Ward was going to win this fight beforehand, but I actually think Kovalev won it clearly. It was pretty close and I think Ward did well to make it a close fight after such a rocky start. Full credit to both guys. I'm looking forward to a rematch. Lets hope we get a more decisive outcome next time.
Far exceeded expectations. I thought it would be boring inside fight. After round 2 I gave Ward little chance of surviving yet alone winning. I had it tied going into the last round. Neither man backed down in the 12th. It was what boxing should be.
