What did you think about Price before his fall? Did you buy into the hype?

I did buy into the hype tbh.

Probably should have waited to see his chin and stamina tested.

 

I didn't think he was the heir to the Klitschko throne let's put it this way.

But at the time when he was blowing everyone away, I'd seen that the big man had shown vulnerability in the amateurs so was waiting to see how he coped as he moved up in levels.

The problem was, he was mismanaged. Maloney had him destroying faded domestic level opposition and then stuck him in with a fringe world class operator. There was no gap for Price to go through the levels and basically, the jump up in class was too much. They should have looked to bridge the gap and move him through properly.

But when it's all said and done, with that rocket of a right hand Price has he will always have that punchers chance. The bloke can seriously bang.

 

Hardly ever seen much of price at the time. Think i seen him against audley then thompson and that was it. Kept missing his fights for some reason or another. But if you go back and watch him...its surprising how many did buy into it. I suppose he was doing everything asked of him getting the ko,s...its always gonna get attention. But looking back he had glaring weaknesses from the off. Number one being his lack of confidence even just watching his debut fight. But think with his height his apparent knock out power and the fact most we,re desperate to have a succesor to the klitchko,s they ended up getting carried away.

Even if they d have matched him better...he would have came unstuck at some point. People blame maloney but he was knocking out domestic level to the point it was time to move him up. Thompson should have been a relatively safe fight for him if he was any good. Think the man was 43 at the time and wasnt exactly an elite fighter in his prime anyway. Even the rematch. Maloney takes the blame. But everyone did think at the time it was just a freak punch. I think thompson left nothing unanswered after that second fight though. Price wasnt ever gonna be beating top level fighters. Still a career out there for him if he wants it bad enough though.

 

I wasn't totally aboard the hype train but thought he had a much better chance of reaching world level than Fury who I thought was awful and let's have it right did duck Price when he became his mando.

Usually o like to see them in a hard fight to see how they are in the next.

I expected him to be the guy to take over, or at least one of the mayor players after the Klitschko brothers retired... man was I wrong!

 

Yes I brought into the hype. I thought he could be the next HW champion after Wlad, and I thought he was better than Fury.

However, there was an element of faith to buying into that hype because he had never been tested above domestic level.

The first Tony Thompson loss was when everyone realised that he was not the real deal. The second loss just reinforced the point to many, that he lacked the stamina, heart and basic defensive skills required to even be a top 20 World HW.

He was badly matched prior to the Tony Thompson fight and badly trained, but if truth be told he probably never had the basic capacity to learn in the first place or the basic heart and fighting stamina. The basic heart and fighting stamina is something that our friend A Farce lacked, he was far better than Price in terms of defensive skills and did reach a higher level than Price will ever reach.

 

Rumours surfaced quite early on in his career that his chin would get cracked as soon as he stepped up going by how he handled being cracked in the ams. Also, and this is gonna sound weird but, I always thought his head looked ridiculously small in relation to his overall size and that therefore he couldn't take a punch which is a bit more than a weakness at heavy weight, more like a handcap so, no I didn't buy into the hype.
