If Vitali was holding, you should WANT the ref to break them up quickly so Chris can punch inside, and do some inside work to the head. Just hitting that behemoth in the side during the few clinches is not going to have much effect.

Actually, there was really not very much holding by Vitali. He mostly slid out of trouble with good footwork.

I dont think you stop it like an amateur fight. He was still trying, the final bell hadnt rang and there is always a small chance he can land something big. this isnt friday night fights this is the HW championship belt. Let the figth go on until the bell rings or one man doesnt want to continue.

Vitali is 38. Arreola will be around long after Vitali retires. No reason for him to sustain serious brain injury. The post Wlad/Vitali era will probably have mostly guys that Arreola, assuming he trains a little better, can beat.

Thanks to the guys who realized the corner stopped it. The last two rounds Vit was really starting to mash his face up. His corner did the right thing. By the time the ref got to the corner they were already telling Chris they were gonna stop it.

No real thoughts either way on the decision, whoever stopped it.

Arreola could have lasted the distance IMO, that would have been nice to see, and I don't think he was exactly ready to go either. On the other hand he wasn't in the fight. But the ref/corner were a lot closer to the action and knew Arreola's condition better than me, they made a judgement call so they were probably right.

Arreola showed some heart and chin. Sure he kept coming forward, but it was mostly ineffective. Good call by the ref who noticed Arreola was taking too much punishment and dishing out enough offense himself.

Vitaly weighs 250 pounds. His punches do damage. The cleaner the punch the more damage. Some of you think they can trade like fly weights ffs. The damage adds up MUCH faster at heavy.

At that point, there was no way in hell Arreola was going to KO Vitali. The corner did the right thing by stopping the fight.

If Arreola wasnt cut like that I would have let him go on but he was bleeding bad and I think Vitali probably broke his nose. I think the stoppage was fine. I could barely count more then 10 clean punches Arreola landed the whole fight

Yeah. I wondered about that too. I thought he was way too quick on some of the breaks. What happened to 'fight out'? 'let him go'? etc?
