I wasn't there. The referee and Arreola's trainer were, so I will take their words for it that the stoppage was a good one. I can say this much: From where I was sitting, I couldn't see any way that Chris was going to do anything more than just get beat on for two more rounds...if he lasted that long.
I disagreed with the stoppage....he was coherent, and was firing back....the man should have allowed atleast one more round, and i think arreola would have finished the fight....he was no way near going down.... the ref was sub-par to say the least...
Given that I really dont think Arreola had any business in the ring with Vitali in the first place, and that the fight was an almost exact copy of the Sam Peters fight, apart from that Arreola was a slightly mobile staggering forward punch bag, instead of a stationary one in Sam Peters. Good stoppage, and if Arreola has any sense he will never fight a top heavyweight (the klit brothers) again....ever...
I kind of wanted to see Arreola last the distance, but the stoppage didn't bother me. He was taking a prolonged beating and boxing is a sport where "moral victories" (not that Arreola would've considered it one anyway) can be real dangerous.
Yeah, it seemed a bull **** stoppage. Arreola had already taken Vit's best for ten so another two rounds wouldn't have been any problem. It isn't like Vit was gonna get a shot of energy and find a new sense of power and conviction. That ref has been involved in other bull **** decisions.
Good stoppage. Chris wasn't going to quit and Vit has got some heavy hands. Couple that with Chris's chin and that is UGLY! Chris could have been seriously hurt....or he could have continued on and finished the fight but he would have still lost. I didn't see anything changing how the fight was going. Chris was game and he showed some balls but Vit was just too good for him. He'll be back! and I'm excited to see how he improves with this experience.
from what i read on espn arreola and his trainer had talked about it before the fight, arreola was incensed that the trainer had decided to appraoch the ref to stop it - and thats why it was called off.
i think it was dan rafael's piece after the fight that said arreola's trainer called for the stoppage - it wasn't arreola.
If his trainer stopped it at the same time, I could have agreed with that because he was getting his ass kicked and needed a knockout to win and it was clear that wasnt happening. But I dont think it was severe enough that the ref should have stopped it, a warning would have been fair. It should have been up to the trainer and doctor. *I see some people saying the corner was going to stop it, it was a bit confusing during fight night cause they didnt really announce who was stopping it or talk about it much.
I thought it was a good stoppage. Chris didn't have a chance in my opinion and it was getting worse. On the other hand I've seen the refs send guys back in with wobbly legs plenty of times.
