what do boxing fans generally prefer more

I never cared much about Maidana, but I was jumping out of joy when he humilliated that clown Broner, also when he bullied Floyd and made him look past prime in the 1st match and knocked his tooth out in the second one

i'll always be grateful to Maidana for those moments even if im not a fan of his

 

A fighter they hate to lose. its nothing like it

Put me in the hater camp. I've seen my heroes win so many times that it can't possibly stir me as much as when I see some boxer I despise lose in humiliating fashion. Adrien Broner losing to Marcos Maidana was the highlight of 2013 for me. I'd need Andy Lee knocking out Peter Quilin to equal that kind of high.

Maidana vs. Broner was the absolute best of both worlds.

Lopez vs. Ortiz as well.

Kovalev vs. Stevenson when it happens maybe sweetest of all.

 

I can't speak for others, but I prefer to see a fighter I like win. Focusing on the negatives is just a hater mentality. It's like those who focus on the guy getting knocked out instead of the punch that did it.

This applies to that glass mandible squad that runs around here

 

Nothing like seing some underdog only you seem to root for pull off an upset

 

Good question OP. I think it very much depends on that particular fighter. I like Pac but dislike Mayweather, so I'll be ****ing like a rogue dog if he wins the fight. As mentioned by another poster, I was cartwheeling when when Maidana beat Broner as much as I did when Pac beat Margo. It's a different type of joy. It's sickening really, how seeing someone you despise (although you've probably never met) getting physically hurt brings enjoyment as much as someone you're a fan of claiming victory.

I don't know, it's all subjective I guess. Certainly an interesting topic

 

Thing is, my two fave fighters (Calzaghe & Brook) have never and will never lose so I'm use to the feeling of winning.

So I suppose I love seeing coddled cash cows form HBO & Showtime get exposed.

 

Probably a fighter they hate lose in most cases, and there are multiple reasons for that in boxing.

1) Big time boxers obviously win much, much more as they lose, certainly when cherrypicking wich is a reason to be hated.
2) Because of reason 1, it's also very clear that most popular boxers are supposed to win their next fight unless it's against another top boxer. So less joy, because they're expected to win.
3) Many different weightclasses means that in most cases a liked and disliked fighter won't be fighting eachother, while still compared. A loss of the disliked fighter is pretty welcome in that case.
4) Same goes for the guys that are in the same division and one is clearly ducking the other, afraid to lose. A loss is of some of those guys is often celebrated by many.

In short: A very popular fighter winning is mostly routine. Fans expect their favorite to win. As well as the most hated fighters are expected to win most fights, so there's clearly more joy in seeing them lose.
In the case of the popular and unpopular fighter actually fighting eachother the sentiment is even of course.
