yeah, but I gotta know because I will need someone to put up the beam as my training area has no ceiling (well, it does but its waaaaaay too high)!

what are the beams made of?

I have hung heavy bags from 9" wooden beams using eyebolts like this one
    http://www.tfmsuperstore.co.uk/product.lasso?product=Eyebolt,-Unwelded-Galv-5/16"x-12"-GP3035+917

means you have to drill a hole straight through the beam so you need access to the top of the beam.

Ceiling hooks like the one on that website would be fine for wood aswell tho, and probablty easier. Make sure you use really long screws to make it strong. Eye bolts are better for strength.

if the beam is metal, like an RSJ then a shorter eye bolt would be ideal.

I have the choice for the beam, metal or wood. Which would be better?

    Whichever is strongest and safe.

Well if its a proper steel beam, then an eye bolt attached to that would be solid. Never come lose if assembled properly. Only problem is it might be a ***** to drill through it. You may need to drill a small pilot hole and build it up until you got the correct size, and you would need very good drill bits, not 2.99 ones form b & q.

The only benefit i see from using a wooden beam is, its alot lot easier.

would should be strong enough (mine is) and easier to drill through, install etc

I made my own stations using 100 x 100 mm square 5mm thick RHS, used the ibolt but pre drill before welding on a drill press. You can make something like the one in the photo below or design your own all dependant on the area and if you want it on the floor or to hang it off a wall.

These stations are useful in certain circumstances but they limit your movement around the bag. I Like to move completely around mine. If he has the option to hang it from a beam away from the wall I would go with that.

That's the plan - a beam from wall to wall and a bag hanging off the middle!

    :good

    cool

So does that mean you are putting up the beam aswell or is it already in place?
