1 - Why do you assume Pavlik being 1 dimensional is a good thing?

2 - Hopkins put Calzaghe down with a superbly timed and powerful counter punch. The straight right was pin-point perfect. Calzaghe wasn't visibly hurt, he got up and carried on as normal, he hardly even slowed up if at all. Pavlik has accumilative power, not big 1-punch power. You think Pavlik has the ability to catch Calzaghe with a perfect counter punch like Hopkins?

Pavlik couldn't counter punch like that to save his life. And not many people are going to land combinations on Calzaghe. Pavlik certainly isn't one of them.

3 - As I keep saying Calzaghe is perhaps the most adaptable fighter in the game. He's extremely experienced and his ring IQ is off the charts compared to Pavlik's. He adapted to beat one of the most intelligence fighters of all-time in Bernard Hopkins, so you think he's going to stumped by Pavlik's 1-2 or 1-1-2 combination?

4 - Do not compare Calzaghe to Jermain Taylor. Taylor is a guy who proved himself by beating on light-middles and looking bad, and getting a gift draw against Winky Wright and two very controversial decisions against Hopkins based on his athletism.

Pavlik beat Taylor because Taylor's defence is poor, he has good offensive skills and he's athletic, but his stamina isn't nearly as good as Calzaghe's, nor his adaptability or ring generalmanship.

Calzaghe would easily be able to take away Pavlik's predictable and pretty slow jab, just like he took away Kessler's jab. And Kessler's jab is far superior to Pavlik's in terms of timing and effectiveness.

If you want a comparison for a Pavlik-Calzaghe fight, look at his fight with Kessler. A guy in his prime, who likes to throw the jab, like Pavlik, and the one-two, like Pavlik. He's a better boxer but a bit upright and not particularly athletic or agile, again like Kelly Pavlik. Calzaghe took away everything from him in that fight, his jab - which as I said is far superior to Pavlik's, his straight right hand, his rhythm, range, everything.

Calzaghe would decision Pavlik with ease, 116-112. Comfortable.

I wish pavlik vs calzaghe would happen..as of now there is no point of arguing until somebody wins on that fight!
Anyways you proved your point already. Really you don't think joe is that overrated don't you?
This 3 people (jcc, valero, joe) are undefeated and i expect his fans to come to his rescue whenever the "perfect" unblemished record of joe, or the man itself, is attacked..:smoke
As far as i am concerned, to label them overrated you have to see a certain poster/s proclaiming how good these guys are as godly as possible. I saw certain posters blindly did that, which adds to the reason they are lableled "overrated", which again made me start this thread...

Calzaghe is 37 years old. In the final year of his career, and has cemented his legacy as a legend amongst other British fighters. He's cleaned up at 168, becoming the division's best ever fighter, and stepped up to beat a top 10 p4p fighter and the man at 175 in Bernard Hopkins.

Calzaghe is all about the money, he said it himself. He showed on a clip shown on ITV on the broadcast of the Witter-Bradley/Froch-Rybacki show. When asked by Froch if he would fight him, he simply replied 'you know what it's about, it's all about the money'.

Rightly or wrongly, this is what he wants now, haven't felt he has cemented his legacy. Of course he could do more to improve his legacy, a win over Pavlik would do him the world of good, but he feels he has done enough to cement it, and he probably has.

Therefore, he's going to want to secure his financial future, so that has has enough to live off for the rest of his life and support his family and give his kids a good upbringing.

Now us hard-core fans know that Pavlik is a much more competitive fight than Jones, although I feel Calzaghe would beat him anyway. However, how many hard-core fans do you think their are compared to casual fans?

The answer is not nearly enough. These casual fans are going to look at the names on the bill. Calzaghe-Jones looks much more attractive to the average viewer than Calzaghe-Pavlik, after all, Jones is a legend of the sport and a top 30 ATG.

This fight is going to bring in a lot more than a fight between Calzaghe-Pavlik would. That's why he has taken the fight.

don't worry. joe will take the time out of his busy schedule next spring to clown the overrated pavlik. then you can all remind us pavlik was overhyped to begin with, no one picked him really and that he'd only beaten a chinless bum in miranda and jermaine taylor who'd already been exposed by winky and old man river.

I doubt it since he had to make bull**** lies to duck him. "I offered him the fight after the Lacey fight". How? Pavlik wasnt even known then and was trying to reach world class level. :hi:
