    It's Kelly's word against Joe's.

Let's get down to the facts, Calzaghe beat Lacy to pretty much cement his legacy as the greatest 168 of all-time. He then wanted to appeal to the American market. IBF then ordered him to face his mandatory Robert Stieglitz. However, HBO weren't interested in this fight and this wouldn't of increased his appeal amongst the American market. So he dropped the belt, and decided to pursue other fighters.

It's not inconceivable that at this point he would of offered Pavlik the fight, he had just come off a KO win over Fulgencio Zuniga in the biggest win of his career, and then became the first guy to stop Bronco McKart. He was being built up as a very good prospect.

I believe it's at this point that Pavlik turned down the fight and then preceeded to offer it to Peter Manfredo Jr instead. Now Manfredo wasn't nearly as accomplished as Pavlik, so there's no reason to suggest that he didn't offer him the fight.

Good observation Tommy but I guess we have to agree to disagree on this one. Well, we got good fights on the way with Joe/Jones and Pavlik/Hopkins. Let see if this fight comes into fluition so we can find out for sure. Anyways, who do you like in the rematch between Cotto and Margarito? :think

r u guessing or givin g a fact? I am fairly certain that neither of them are afraid of each other..esp pavlik seeing he is younger and stronger...but joe c has hardly avoided challenges himself...its just business

He has great accumilative power and wears his opponent down. He does not have true one punch power like an Arthur Abraham.

I'm not saying they are afraid of each other. And I was giving fact in the first section, and then said I believe that they probably did offer Pavlik the fight but he didn't want it because he wasn't accomplished enough.

And now it appears Calzaghe doesn't want the fight because he wants to retire, although we don't know again.

It may just come down to the fact that because of the age difference and the timing, it's never really conceivable for them to fight, because Pavlik has only recently established himself and therefore probably didn't want the fight before, and Calzaghe is declining and wants to retire and therefore probably doesn't want the fight now.

I hope Pavlik gets past Popkins so Arthur Abraham can give him a good beatdown and goons like this mad_takanura will crawl back under the stones where they came from.

    Almost killed him?

He threw like a 20 punch combination and Taylor was stopped on his fight before he fell to his knees in exhaustion.

And so what if he hurt him with one punch, it was right on the temple when Taylor was exhausted and messed with his equilibrium and just stunned him.

Lolenga Mock put David Haye down with a shot to the temple, are you telling me Mock has serious 1 punch KO power?

The Zuniga, it was a 3 punch combination. Hence what I mean accumilative power.

He has great accumilative power, and good one shot power but not great. Arthur Abraham has about twice the natural power, he's hurt people a lot more with 1 punch than Pavlik has with 3 or 4.

Abraham is a strong dude and whilst he not great technically Pavlik ain`t no Sugar Ray Leonard. I see Abraham stopping Pavlik late. Beating Jermain Taylor,a guy with questionable heart and Gary Lockett don`t make Pavlik a world beater. He`s a bit a of a trailer park slugger really.
