Honestly. What do people see in Wilder? I see the attraction to the 1 punch power...other than that, there is little more than an amateur boxer in his "****nal". He proved tonight he is no where near defensively sound. Szpilka was landing at will. He was backed up numerous times after being hit with left hands up top and hooks to the body. His offense is no where near world class. He has poor footwork and potentially the worst balance in the division. He put himself on the canvas while coming forward! Other than landing the punch that ended the fight, Wilder did very very little to prove he is World Champ material let alone a world class boxer. Szpilka had Wilders number and he is far from a world beater. Klitschko, Haye, Fury, Povetkin, Joshua and Parker all have very high odds of getting him out of there before 6. So, other than his one punch power, what do you "fans" see in the guy?
that is just it. they "see" something in him. agree with your post he is just not sound and has a shameful record. Mike Tyson before the fight alluded to Szpilka..something like "never heard of him." for a belt holder he is pretty bad.
yeah but you probably watch him just to see his mouth get shut, true? my point is that is part of his appeal :bbb
Im not going to assume you are a "casual fan" however, I will assume you have not boxed a day in your life. Questions: 1/ What other HW is scared when a lighter puncher comes forward? Wilder is the only man in the division that physically flails his arms in the air and pulls his face back as a punch comes towards him, rather than using lateral movement and a sound guard. 2/ How does a "undefeated future HW champ" lose almost every round against a 4-1 underdog? 3/ How did you feel when Wilder was losing 6 rounds to Szpilka? 4/ Tell me how he possibly beats the likes of Klitschko, Haye, Fury, AJ and Parker? 5/ Why does a man with such a long reach, not utilise a solid jab? 6/ Why do baby deer have larger calves than Wilder?
yes some of the punches he throws are basketball fight type punches, its embarrassing many times, plus most guys by 10 fights (let alone 30 plus) get that stuff out of their systems for good and he still falls back into it :hat on the other hand, he can cheat and get away with ALOT because when he gets his timing he can really throw a fast hard punch :good
His fights are pure entertainment. I haven't seen a glass cannon this entertaining on the Heavyweight scene since Morrison at his best, who coincidentally enough, also had people complaining about level of competition and had critics for being overhyped. The bottom line is I watch boxing to be entertained, and if a fighter delivers on that, I'll watch. Wilder's fights deliver for me much more often than not. I find it much preferable to enjoy that than to be a snob about an entertaining evening's fights simply because the combatants aren't the absolute best on the planet.
1. Irrelevant. 2. He didn't 3. I don't know, because he wasn't. 4. AJ has a lot to prove, Klitschko is done, Fury is a skilled boxer but his power doesn't real scare anyone, Parker has fought NOBODY. 5. He does. 6. Irrelevant. There are your answers.
He's not great by any means, but he's fun to watch. Power puncher with decent agility. Doesn't do much holding. He needs to step up the competition though. His quality of opposition s making it very hard for me to continue being a fan.
